uSDX Ultra - Hand-Held Micro QRP HF Transceiver

A uSDX Ultra - Hand-Held Micro QRP HF Transceiver just arrived from AliExpress. When set at a TX Drive = 3, Noise Gate = 2, PA BIAS = 128 and PA BIAS MIN = 0 it actually sounds pretty good! It transmits from 80-10m and everywhere in between, but there are only TX filters for the 40, 20, 15 and 11/10m bands. I quickly checked this on a spectrum analyzer and the harmonics are reasonably low on these bands, but HIGH everywhere else, as expected. TX power is between 3.5 and 5 watts across the bands. RX is good too, although it is not a very sensitive RX and reports around -6dB down on its -dBm meter compared to a known signal source. Still, it is useable.

My main complaint is the rotary encoder wheel - its is too touchy and seems to jump in steps of 2, for each single movement. Annoying, but you can work around it by changing the step size in the menu. Overall, the radio actually works better than I expected. Many QRP contacts have been made with no complaints from the stations I spoke too so far. I actually got some OK TX audio reports. Battery life seems excellent too.

YMMV. But it's a handheld SSB HF radio, for cheap. There is a lot to like about that!

ok...back in my days...we would use the ol' CB radio for communications. We called our signals that we received as (If the needle pointed toward 8) "we'd call it 8 pounds", So now I hear this "5x7" report and I haven't a clue what the hell that stands for....I am assuming signal but no idea on the numbers meaning...anyone??
