The 'Keeping Our Seeds Pathogen-Free: A Small-Scale Seed Producer’s Guide to Managing Seed-borne Diseases with Dr. Lindsey du Toit' session covers broad disease management principles applicable across many crops and environments, while going into more specific detail in small-seeded vegetable crops of importance to commercial seed production in BC and the US Pacific Northwest, such as carrot, spinach, beet, onion, and brassicas.

Professor du Toit is a vegetable seed pathologist at Washington State University, where she co-leads the Pacific Northwest Vegetable Extension Group. Her research and extension program is on the causes, biology and management of diseases that affect vegetable seed crops grown in the Pacific Northwest USA. Prof. du Toit also serves as an advisor to the Canadian Organic Vegetable Improvement (CANOVI) project, a collaboration between the University of British Columbia’s Centre for Sustainable Food Systems and the Bauta Family Initiative on Canadian Seed Security.
