Never thought I’d see one piece match the quality of other modern shows animation wise.

This opening is a masterclass in storyboarding, compostion, framing, lighting; too many things to list out, all done specatcularly by the GOAT Megumi Ishitani herself and the litany of assistant keyframe animators that worked on this. People could (and should) make hour long video essays on this one opening and still not cover eveything in this ranging from a technical standpoint to themes and messaging. This is unarguably the best One Piece opening on that alone and I am so incredbily happy we have been blessed with such a masterpiece. Thank you Megumi Ishitani and Toei for allowing the time, money and energy into letting these artists abolsutely flex on everyone in the industry-- A trend I hope continues into Egghead and the end of One Piece when that time comes.

Nobody is saying it, but the best part is easily when Luffy is laughing out of joy with the Dawn in the background at 0:37.
It captures the feeling of pure happiness that we all yearn for, and it implies that he broke out of the story into our world to bring that joy to us.
That one moment makes the opening and it's why they stayed on that opening part so long. It gives hope.

The view of the Samurai as they look up at Luffy's fight always makes me tear up a bit....these men have waited 20 long years, watched all their loved ones suffer, their children and wives starved, their friends slaughtered like animals, and yet they still stand here bruised and bloody hoping beyond hope that they'll finally see the dawn of a new era and a return to the home they loved. All of this pain, this fear, this hatred finally has a chance of being washed away, and all they can do is stare upwards at the absolute madness happening above, hoping and praying with every bit of themselves that this man can create a miracle! I love it so much.

I can’t man, the scenes in the second half are SO beautiful and wholesome 😭 Robin with Toko, Otama showing off her kibi dango, the friends being amazed with Sanji’s cooking, Toko and Hiyori laughing in tears while Brook is covered in lipstick, and showing everything that happened in Wano, shaping out inside of a calligraphy written “One Piece”. It’s one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen in an anime intro and the song really captures the feeling of the long awaited end to an incredible story.
