New Harley Boom Box GTS Conversion-How to Retrofit & Upgrade

preview_player
Показать описание
As of November 2019, Harley-Davidson made it possible to upgrade your older system to the new 2019 Boom Box GTS on those 2014-2018 touring models. Visiting Harley's website, it seems they are marketing and describing this conversion kit more towards upgrading from the smaller 4.3 non-touchscreen unit to the new GTS unit, but you can upgrade from either the smaller 4.3 unit or the larger 6.5 GT unit. We tell you and show you everything you need to know if you're considering this upgrade. No need to pay a dealership to do this. We've got your back.

Asked my local dealership to meet or beat Utah Harley website, and they did. Had them do the install so they can flash it while the bike was there. Works perfectly. Great video, keep up the great work

Thanks Ryan. Just did this to my 2017 RGS. I'm very happy with the new Boom GTS since it is fully integrated. It is a little pricey but still cheaper than a new bike. Oh also to replace the switch cap, I only removed the two T25 screws on the switch cover and not the perch bolts.

If you buy the GTS radio from the HD catalog, (brand new) you don’t need the harness from SoundZ customs, but if you buy the 2019-2020 radio used, meaning taken out of a bike, you will need that harness to work in a 14-18 bike.

I upgraded my 2018 limited with no regrets... big difference. Great video as always!

These how-to videos are why I have been a subscriber to the channel for years now. I have purchased your heated grip install video and another one on installing an amp. Both were worth every penny. Thank you!

I would like to thank you and your brothers for all the great tutorials that you put out. I have a 2019 Street glide standard with the 4.3 screen. For Christmas I received a new GTS and WHIM unit. With your videos I was able to install both without issue in less than two hours. Your work is greatly appreciated. Hope you and all involved with your channel have a wonderful new year!

Good to know that I can replace the 6.5 should it ever die. Until then, it does everything I need it to do. Thanks for taking the time to produce this video Ryan.

Well sir, I finally got my GTS unit. I spent about a year deciding. In the meantime I watched this video repeatedly. “Pulled the trigger”. An amazing video here. It is very informative. The install went smoothly and quickly. The flash of the radio didn’t go so smoothly. It ended up with DAB, buttons switched on the hand controls, no WHIM or CB enabled. The Harley tech was really nice and we worked through the flash (actually using your paid video on the GTS). The only bummer was that Apple CarPlay work without a helmet prior to flash. The tech installed a firmware update while flashing the radio. According to them (after the fact) Apple CarPlay will only work now with a microphone connected (wireless or wire).

Soo, if I find a Take Off radio, and not buy the kit from Harley, will I need an additional harness? Will the info switch still work as a BACK button? Have you done a tutorial on this yet? Thanks!

I was told you need a special wiring harness for this and the only place to get it was a shop in Florida for like $250. You probably just save a lot of people a lot of unnecessary spending. Thank you!

Upgrade for me huge upgrade from the 4.3 to the old 6.5 gt. I'm doing it next week can't afford the all digital 6.5 gts screen, I'll be happy with the old 6.5 thank you for the video...

Wow, the video is awesome, I was a little upset about the upgrades they did to the 19's shortly after I bought my 18, but this upgrade I think looks really easy, 😉😉😉. You guys do awesome work for the biker community, cheers.

I swapped the 4.3 on my 14 out for a GTS , the USB from the 4.3 works with the GTS as well .

Great video. I have a 2017 road glide and just purchased a new take off unit from a 22 Road Glide. It does not come with the black gps adapter or hand control switch. Will I need any of that? Thanks Ryan

A+ I'm still thinking about replacing mine with the new. Your video certainly helps with my decision for sure. I was wondering about my xm radio part, and boom, you mentioned it. I actually do like my current infotainment, so we'll see. Very detailed...thank you Sir.

Well done, Ryan. Don't know if I'll pull the trigger on the expense, but if I do, your video will be in my garage with me.

Please do a video on how to install at 65" flat screen tv on my Fat Boy - and include a home theater surround-sound speaker set-up.
