That was really helpful. We relined an 'adopted' formal pond from our neighbours who sold us part of their garden. I relined & added stones to enable creatures to crawl out but lots of algae. I have some Flag Iris (so beautiful) & wanted to add the other correct plants to protect the masses of Newts etc who have moved back.. I haven't a clue & this has been so helpful

Good info. I'd add that when cut and thinned periodically to remove the absorbed nutrients these plants tend to break down into fantastic humic compost for your veggie garden and fruit trees.
PS. Careful with Typha roots around pond liner though, the rhizome tips are very sharp and they'll clog a small pond or reed bed in no time.

Hello, thanks for the informative video. Just as a suggestion it would be really great if you could hover on the plant tags a little more so we could also learn the names of some species. There were some cool looking plants over there that I wish I could ID and I'm sure there are other curious people like me.

Great information. I would add one bit of caution. Some oxygenators such as Parrots Feather & also water Hyacinths can grow aggressive root systems. So much so the fish have much less room to swim and have difficulty getting from one part of the pond to another. You need to regularly trim the length of the roots back. This has been my experience. I’ve even lost fish who died trying to jump over clumps Of plants 🌱 and got stuck out of water.

Water Calla? Have some from a friend and they don't seem to be thriving yet but survived the winter in northern Wisconsin so I am hopeful.
