Scout Revival

In 1980, the last Scout truck rolled off the assembly line in Fort Wayne, Indiana. But that wasn’t the end of the road, it was only the beginning.

Thanks to a passionate community who kept the flame burning; nurturing it, caring for it, passing it down to the next generation, waiting for the day the American icon would return. Because no matter how long it’s been or how far we’ve gone, Scouts always come back.

Built on an all-new and proprietary body-on-frame platform with a solid rear axle, the Scout Traveler and Scout Terra are designed from the ground up to deliver credible capability and off-road performance, with intention to offer up to 35-inch tires, over 1 foot of ground clearance, nearly 3 feet of water fording capability, a front sway bar disconnect, front and rear mechanical lockers, competitive approach and departure angles, and robust suspension options. Scout vehicles are projected to tow up to 10,000 pounds for the Terra truck, over 7,000 pounds for the Traveler SUV, and haul up to 2,000 pounds of payload for both models.

Both the Scout Traveler and Scout Terra will be configurable with 100 percent battery electric or gasoline-fueled range-extended energy systems to give customers the confidence they need to electrify on their terms. Fully electric variants are anticipated to offer up to 350 miles of range, and range-extended variants are projected to offer more than 500 miles of range through a built-in, gas-powered generator.

As the owner of the "Last Scout", it brings tears to my eyes!
21 years of Preservation, including a dedicated ($$) investment in Restoration brought us to this point.
(Also, I'm in the Guard's Uniform at 0:13.) 😁

Bought a 1979 Scout II in late 1978 when I was 20. The color was called Burnt Orange. Had the big, white Rallye stripe (I hope you make that an option). Turned heads everywhere! The VP where I worked had a new Bronco and was jealous of me. Unfortunately, had to sell it when I moved to Florida because it didn't have air conditioning. Reserved one as soon as the reservation page became available on the web site yesterday. Hopefully, I'll be one of the first to get one. Well done, Scout Motors!

Great commercial. Son of IH tractor dealer here. We used Scouts a lot back in the day because we got dealer discounts from representing the sister divisions. Sold both the farm equipment and the original IH Cub Cadets. ( Made far better than the tin crap by MTD today🙄.) Scouts were not perfect because they were a product of the malaise era. But they were great customized. After I inherited the 1978 Limited V8 from my Dad we dumped money into fixing a few things and I had a blast with it. First real truck I drove for about 4 years. My needs out grew it quickly. I could never find a Terra Pickup locally and when Ford came out with the Ranger well, that was the end of chasing hard to find Scout parts. IH brass never understood Scout owners. They barely supported it. They’d rather sell dump trucks etc. A small group of people in the company kept the lights on until the end came. Ford jumped in with both feet supporting the first generation Ranger mini truck including a 7 foot box and SVO Motorsport parts support at a great price. Too bad Ford forgot what made the first Ranger great. I’m not sure VW understands what made the Scout 2 series great. Affordable brute strength that allowed you to build it your way. 60 grand is too high. Full EV is not going to sell in rural America. It needs to be a full hybrid and a base price of 30 grand to interest me. In the rust belt paychecks have not kept up with new car costs for decades. That’s why we drive ten year plus old cars. I wish them well but I’ll keep dreaming of restoring a 1977 Terra two door pickup.

My grandfather was a plant foreman for International in Ft. Wayne, where the Scout was originally assembled. He got a brand new one every year. I want to get a new one to honor him.

This video got to me more than I expected. My dad picked up a 78 Scout 2 when I was 4 years old. I learned how to drive both on and off road in that thing and he was ALWAYS listening to CCR, Steppenwolf and Bob Seger. Reserved the new Scout. It will look good parked next to that same Scout I own to this day.

This is gonna be sick! The design and how it brings back that 70s flare with a modern style is awesome. It's gonna be cool when the Scout gets here! 🤘🏼

Thankful they added a gas aspect, smart move, especially given their clientele. Looking forward to seeing these roll out from SC.
