How I Bought Rihanna’s Dress (Inside My Fashion Archive)

Since quarantine started I've begun a new hobby, which is collecting vintage luxury clothes, handbags, and shoes to start building up an archive! I started it originally as a way to have a tangible reference point for reviews and critics, as well as examples for any fashion history videos in case they were ever needed! But as I started collecting these pieces, I realized that sharing the items with you guys and getting to talk about and showcase my archive, everyone can learn something, including myself! So today we discuss and look at Christopher John Roger's "Wiggle" dress, that Rihanna wore to a Savage Beauty event in South Korea. I don't own her actual dress, but I do think that as it's a runway garment and worn by one of the top fashion muses of the 21st century it's an important dress to have! It also allows us to have insights into CJR's world of color and his technical skills. Then we discuss a Louis Vuitton by Richard Prince handbag that was the opening bag from Louis Vuitton's Spring 2008 show by Marc Jacobs. We did a video about the show, and I initially purchased the bag to help explain more about Marc & Richard's collaborative efforts. I have worn this Celine suit on the channel before, but seeing as how it's from Michael Kors' era working at Celine, I thought it was important to discuss. One of the most hated looks I've ever worn was a Kenneth Ize scarf stylied with a Scottish kilt, and today we're taking an in-depth look at the scarf and the importance of aso oke weaving. The last piece wer talk about is a 1980s skirt suit by the legendary Thierry Mugler. Mugler reimgaiend the suit and runway shows in dramatic fashions that were instrumental of the style aesthetics of the 80s.

The Rihanna dress fabric is called "iridescent" meaning the warp threads are one color and the weft threads are another color. This was very big in the Mid to late 80's!

Luke's absolute refusal to learn basic French pronunciation is honestly kind of admirable at this point 😂

I think some more close up shots of the garments, especially the stitching, would really help make this series even better. Maybe even have some "models" for a few garments, with close ups of how the garments hang on them? I'm really interested in seeing more of these though 🙂

Raise your hand if you want a video where he shows how to store and preserve pieces like this. 🙋

I loved listening to you talk about the scarf. It is clearly a treasured possession, something that is very special to you. The way you described the colours and the details and the tiny "flaws" was actually touching.

"If you dont have taste buds, I cant fix that" - Luke just throwing shade all over the place. Love it.

I would love to see more information on where/how you get pieces, and how you plan to store them as your collection expands. This series is so exciting!

I really like this segment, it's quite interesting and very educational. Because of this video, I learnt that Christopher John Rogers is a young black designer (His name made me imagine that he was a man in his 40s/50s) and I look forward to seeing more of his work

This segment also solidifies your interest, love, knowledge and willing to learn about fashion as a whole. Your idea of wanting to rent the garments you purchase is a very good idea.

I actually know how to weave on a loom (I've made linen) and I know how to make thread (made yarn and flax thread, processed wool and flax from start to finish) and the dots that you are seeing are probably from the thread breaking or running out. When that happens you knot the new thread to the one that ran out and continue to weave. Those are unique to that scarf which I find really cool. I don't necessarily love the scarf, but I love the vibrant colors and I love the craftsmanship that clearly went into it.

I love the idea of renting the dresses out to everyday people I think a lot of people would kill for an opportunity like that

Great video! Would love to see more of these :)

For me a point of improvement would be to include more shots of the garments up close. Especially since these can be hard to find elsewhere online for specific garments like these. And it would definitely add to your commentary about the stitching, the texture etc.

can I recommend adding in B-roll of slow, smooth, up close clips of the garments to see the weave, texture and colour etc while you explain certain things? like what you did with the scarf but for longer and showing more
