Ribz Front Pack Review

Why would this piece of gear come in handy? Have you ever been on the trail and needed something in your pack but didn't want to take the pack on and off? This helps keep those essential items at hand. I often find myself wanting a little snack for an energy boost but not wanting to take off the pack while on the trail. This is just one reason I like this piece of gear.

You and Mykel Hawke led me to RIBZ and I have used it in Hiking, but also on many local and road trips while motorcycling. I also would enjoy a bit tougher material. The deal with a Maxpedition fell through but I will continue to purchase knowing its limitations.

Nice review on a handy piece of gear Crocket... well done. This is an functional solution to the accessibility issues inherent with backpacking. Personally, I've always tended to go with a simple "fanny pack" in the front for those frequent use items... I tend to go on the lighter side when backpacking, so this has worked excellent for that. For those requiring more gear when afield I think the Ribz Pack is an awesome addition to the system. Thanks for the review!

So glad you finally reviewed these Crocket. I've been waiting to hear what you thought about them before I decided to make the purchase. Thanks!

Great review, you addressed all of my concerns with this unit. My biggest is the heat being retained in your torso adding to already restricted air movement around your core during strenuous trail climbing. Sounds like in the Southeast US that this would be better for late fall/winter.

Thanks for a thorough review!

Thanks for the reply. I realy like the looks of that pack.. I often have the "I want something, but it is in my pack" problem.

Fully agree with having a pack on your front to carry snacks and essential equipment for on the trail.
I currently have a "diagonal" bag (single strap, slings from shoulder to opposite hip) in which I carry snacks, wind cheater, gloves, phone, first aid kit and other essential/useful items - I want to upgrade to a RIBZ pack at some stage as it would be more stable and not flap around.
Shifting some of the weight forward and having ready access to handy items are two great advantages.

Nice review for sure. Very interesting system. I see it working well in using a smaller backpack and augmenting it with this pack. Then you have the easy access of a lot of items plus storage of others and the typical day pack with everything else. I'm going to consider one of these for sure.

Awesome review, seems very handy for carrying those items that you need to access frequently.

Crocket, I've had these Ribz for 5-6months now & i agree. Really like them. I found that if i have them full i just unzip the middle when i bend if needed. it allows greater R.O.M. Also, i'm a bigger guy & these fit very well [same version]. When i'm using them in high temp i've found that if i do not adjust them tight around my torso it allows air to circulate. This doesn't seem to affect how they ride for me either. i just tighten the upper back a little. glad to see someone else running RIBZ

I've been waiting on this one & nice job on the review. As a fellow backpacker I know the importance of real estate on the front. I've always utilized shoulder straps, hip belt & chest pockets on rain jackets to stow gear on the front. The ribz pack seems like a great option to give versatility &/or a stand alone 10 essentials pack.

Excellent review. I was thinking that the zippers should be reversed in direction because of the occasional snag pulling them down and open. Also I was working out while watching so I might of missed it, but a small first aid kit should be carried in the front as well. Great kit.

Great video. Very informative. This does seem like a smart choice when you look at it. For me heavy yet important things in my pockets or even in belt pouches tend to sag down my pants. And they might pop out when you have to pull down your pants.
