BRUTAL REVIEW OF MY CHANEL BOY BAG - WHAT I CHOOSE INSTEAD!

Despite being a beautiful bag I just do not reach for it, after 15 months it is time for a review.

I will share the basic specifications of the bag, what fits, how to wear it, mod shots and the bags I tend to substitute it with.

I hope you find this helpful if you're considering this bag or this colour or just wanting to consider what to look for in a luxury handbag.

This video breaks my heart because I love the boys! I have 8! I surprisingly love them more than the classic flaps. Primarily for the reason that I can wear them crossbody. But it works for me because I’m short lol. But yes I have popped out the balls on the strap to make it longer. It works, but it’s kind of a scary process lol. I get every single point that you made though. I do think the grey one is a little harder to wear. I totally agree with the line when you said you have to dress for the bag! I had my grey one for 2 years and worn it once 😳. It’s probably the one bag I might let go of if I really had to. Great video!

Great decision. I’ve never loved so much the boy not because the shape that is amazing but about the functionality ( for example the capacity and the internal organization). Your ‘substitutes’ are great, I love your Fendi pekaboo with the canvas strap. Have a good night!!!

Aww sorry to hear you have to part with this, Dayle. It is a gorgeous bag. The leather and the hardware are perfect together. But if it isn't getting used then I do agree that it's better to let it go. I'm sure you'll be able to rehome it without trouble. It's a stunning piece and you've cared for it well! x

I totally agree with you 100%, I do think it's beautiful and stunning but just something about it, I wouldn't necessarily reach for it (I don't have one but based on the other reviews/pros & cons I've seen as well). I love that you mentioned the substitutes because we can definitely opt for other options rather than buying the BOY. 😊💕 I'm definitely considering the lady Dior as an alternative!!!

Sis, this bag is stunning!!!! Chanel is on my wishlist for 2021, but it's so hard to nail down which one!!! The boy bag used to be on my list but then it wasn't and then it was back...definitely in a "different" colour like this one...but this one sounds like its a bit high maintenance...now I know some things to look out for, thanks for sharing, Dayle!

It’s a gorgeous boy and complements your skin tone and eye color beautifully, but if your cost per wear is high it's best to move on from it. I just bought a limited edition preloved old medium boy but the leather strap part is woven so it doesn’t slip off my shoulder. I absolutely love it! I just sold two other bags that I wasn’t reaching for as much but still loved....It’s hard to let go sometimes of beautiful but under utilized bags, but once I sell it, I don’t think about it anymore. There’s a fine line between hoarding and collecting for me...so I try to keep my collection limited to the bags I use.

This is very interesting to me! I love my boy. I can perfectly wear it crossbody (I’m only 5’3”) as well as double strapped on my shoulder and I love both of these ways. I always keep reaching for this bag (that’s probably because I have hardly gone out that much recently and wore my boy most of those times) and I can also fit all my essentials. I guess this goes to show how the same bag can work differently for different people.

That color is stunning! I have the hardest time with gray for some reason. It screams demure and refined to me, but maybe that's just my mental association to Dior? I bought a gray Marc Jacobs bag on sale a few years ago, but never reached for it. Finally I just gave it to my sister. She loves it, but her coloring is totally different to mine (very blond, very blue eyes). Sounds like you're making the best decision! Thanks for sharing 😊

I totally agree with you about selling a bag as beautiful as it is when it isn’t being used Dayle. 2020 made me re-evaluate my huge amount of clothes, shoes and bags and I donated a lot of clothes and shoes and sold many small leather goods and 16 designer bags as lovely as they all were because I had too many multiples of a style or I didn’t use them. The bag that shocked my friends was when I recently sold the Chanel lamb skin medium classic flap in black with silver hardware. . Mine was bought new in 2009 and from the rare times I used the bag, it would get scratches and creases and marks....mine was a very delicate year of lambskin apparently. I also prefer gold hardware so I sold it because it sat there being used only once a year and I really didn’t enjoy worrying or the silver I really understand how you feel because I loved the look but just didn’t work for me. Luckily I got double the money I paid for it 😬

I always like grey because it’s very neutral for all seasons. I also like more slouchy bags than structured bag except for mini bags. This is so beautiful, maybe think a little more because of the price increases, you won’t lose money. I’m very sentimental. Unless it bugs you so much, then time to let go because you have 2 beautiful structured Fendi bags that are as classics, cool and edgy 💕🤗

I'm sorry to hear you're not getting along with your Boy. I love mine, but I agree with you that I wish the strap were longer or properly adjustable. I'm quite short, so I can get away with it crossbody, even though it sits up a little higher than I would normally wear. I also like carrying it with the chain doubled. I would love to buy your bag, but I'm guessing that once exchange rates and shipping from Australia are figured in, it would probably not end up being a great deal for me -- but I'm sure you'll have loads of people champing at the bit to buy it.

your seasonal flap is gorgeous! I wish the new seasonal bags were as good quality and as unique as the old seasonal flaps used to be. I find that the new seasonal flaps have very bad leather quality.

I had 3 boy bags. 2 in calf and 1 in caviar. Never had much issues with it. There was once I fell down with the calf skin bag and it stood up very well. It only had a tiny tiny scratch at the corner. My caviar OM bag is in bronze. Similar to what u have. There is some slight discoloration to the chain but nothing serious. It's a boxy edgy bag. Either u love it or u don't. One thing for sure. If u want the luxurious feel in a handbag, go for CF. I cant feel that in boy bags

Hi Dayle - yes I agree with what you are saying. I think we have such a casual lifestyle and the boy bag is too serious for your personality and style. Yes sell and put your money into a piece you love. Knowing you now I can tell by your face that you do not love her like you should. She is a beautiful bag and someone else will love ❤️ her.
