Dub-Stuy | A Brooklyn based Sound System Collective

While searching for parties and venues in the NYC that offered Dub & Reggae music, we happened to come across burgeoning Brooklyn based record label and sound-system collective, Dub-Stuy.

Founded by “Q” (Quoc Pham) in October 2012, at the core of its identity is a powerhouse sound system-- 15,000 watts of speakers stacked into a tremendous “tower of sound.” Dub-Stuy brings together DJs, vocalists, producers, and sound system engineers from around the globe to represent the culture in its entirety-- from music conception to projection.

Dub-Stuy has been blessing NYC streets and venues with its monumental hand-crafted sound systems. Pictures don’t do it justice, you have to experience the towers in person for a full body experience of sound! Their events include block parties, underground club nights and music festivals with featured guests such as Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Channel One, Mungo’s Hi-Fi, OBF, Radikal Guru, Dubkasm, Om Unit, and Gorgon Sound. It’s an international music family, perfectly at home in the most diverse city in the world.

Above all, the Dub-Stuy collective is built from passion and respect for the sound system culture and music. While other music groups focus on production or performance, Dub-Stuy encompasses everything in one, considering the experience of music to be just as important than the songs themselves. The unique project is 5 years in the making and gaining momentum as Q and Dub Stuy raise awareness of sound system culture here in the United States. While big in the Jamaica, UK and Europe, many people in the USA are totally unfamiliar with the culture and concept. It’s an admirable scene at a time where most music is played on headphones, at home, in subways, during commutes. Sound system culture is about community, and Dub-Stuy is at the forefront of building that community here in the heart of NYC.

If you’re ever in the NYC area, be sure to follow them and attend one of their parties. It’s truly a unique experience with positive (and extra loud) vibes all around. Have a blast, and be sure to bring earplugs :)

As they say, Big up! -__-

Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !"
Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam ."
Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!"
Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window ? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..."
Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!"
Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky."
Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction."
Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"
