The "MH" carts were made 88 to 90, there were 5 revisions with DIP chips, and 1 with COP (glob-top).
The 88 run of Mario/Duck Hunt did not have the white divider line. So your friend's cart is from Mar 88 to Jan 89.

I had that as a kid! I was weirded out when I saw Mario as a stand-alone game.

Hey John, I had a cough that I couldn't get rid of for over a year. Doctor put me on two meds. They didn't help. Then I got a sleep study and found I had sleep apnea. Once I got my CPAP machine, the cough (and fatigue) was gone in 48 hours. It was so miserable before.

I worked for Nintendo in the 1990's. The "glob" version was a later cost reduced version ( I think it was called "Chip on Board")

I am in my 40s and still playing games. You are from the same breed. The 80s never die.

I thought you were going say it was one of those Nintendo games that had the convertor inside that allowed you to play Famicom games on the NES.

My dad had this same double feature game when i was a kid. I see it at shops all the time. Great copy!

Well, ALL versions of this cartridge were only available as a pack-in. You couldn't buy it separately. It is strange that it doesn't have a seal, but maybe Nintendo didn't bother because the customer knew it was a genuine cart since the only way to get one was to buy one of the bundles. My initial thought when I saw that label was that maybe this was a top loader-era cartridge, but having a regular board with ROM chips on it kind of negates the idea that this cartridge was made on the cheap. It's probably just a version that came with the Action Set before they started using the glop tops to cut costs.

I remember opening my mario/duckhunt with a hammer when I was younger

Weather it had the line spitting the pictures or it was just the plain one NONE of those I opened up were glob tops. Not sure why but maybe the glob tops are more rare now. I’ve probably opened about 10 of each type and none had the glob top. Interesting

If I remember correctly, it was a part of a combo with the NES and the light gun. The game came with the box and when you are shipping millions of units, lightening the load of each boxed full 20ft container could save a metric tonne in weight and that's a huge saving in freight.

This guy made such a big noise about them looking different... why didn't he hold them both in front of the camera at the same time, for at least a few seconds... so we could see them side-by-side at the same time?!

Folks, there is nothing mysterious here. Later versions used the cheaper-to-produce chip-on-board versions seen here.

I had to open mine up as soon as I got home from work and I don't have a glob top! Is there a price difference?

My nes when I was 10 was the mario/duck hunt and light gun bundle, your videos bring up memories of a great period in gaming 👌

You should also be able to tell if it's bootleg or not by the way that the NES would act if you try to play the game, since the original NES has some sort of chip that prevents it from running unauthorized cartridges.

Interesting. I did not know that. You got a new subscriber!

I've been collecting NES games for 25 years, and I've never seen this.

Dude, that cartridge came bundled with the NES back in the late 80s early 90s. Damn things were everywhere when I grew up.
