Great artist and guitar player, what makes him so good is he can play rock, blues and jazz and even funk it up as you heard here, he played a little bit of everything. John is not known for being a shredder although he can, i think his forte is just capturing you with his soul and feel and the understanding of the music. Great video

What I like about him is that he's keeping the music of his predecessors going. He's a damn good musician, a good singer, and he is one who was not afraid to learn the proper ways of playing and performing. Way to go, John.

I love this. This is from Eric Clapton's Crossroads Festival. This is the introduction to his song City Love. John Mayer is the whole package . He can write a sensitive ballad, but has a command in his playing that can take off into parts unknown. By the way, the City Love portion is not available on YouTube for some half-baked corporate reason . John Mayer is another amazing musician who gets savaged quite a bit. I have heard some say that he is so popular because of his looks. These are probably the same geniuses who I have seen comment about Derek Trucks that playing slide is lazy as opposed to fingering. Thanks for an in depth honest assessment of a true amazing talent. Cheers.

Finally, i've been hanging for you to acknowledge John for a while now. Thanks Fil. His right hand is one of the best in the business and he can pick an acoustic guitar with equal skill. Appreciation from downunder

My opinion of him has changed the last couple years. I stumbled on his instagram posts and he seems very forthcoming and extremely intelligent. He can play anything he put his mind to and should. Never noticed his face I watch his hands

His guitar skills in the live version of Believe are unreal. Deep, lyrics and great song too. I saw him in concert way back when with Maroon 5 opening for him in Vancouver. I had no idea he could play the guitar like that. I was a fan before the concert but during and after I was completely blown away by him as an all around artist.

John is one of the coolest, smoothest cats when it comes to style of playing!……his groove is crazy good!!……He has been criticized in the past for his personal romantic life which I believe is unjust and frankly, no ones business……that SHOULD have no bearing on a person’s career whatsoever but unfortunately that is what the general public is enamored by at times instead of an artist’s talent. As to his personality, he has come across is a strange brew! But truth be told that could be said about each one of us at any given time…And yes, vocally he’s fantastic!!……Thanks Fil, as usual you out do yourself……🤘❤️

Finally! I thought you were snubbing John! My favorite guitarist by far. Not as technical as a lot of what you've had on here but his music just moves so much in me. Not to mention his work with Dead and Co is fantastic!

Though I'm a metal type of guy, I consider not only John Mayer a very talented guitarist, but also Keith Urban & Brad Paisley as well.

Cool video, Fil. Mayer and Dime are two guitarists that I watch a lot to improve my playing. I'll never be able to solo like them, but as a rhythm guitar player I've learned so much from them. Both are amazing at playing rhythms.

Wings his playing w Dead and Co is often off the charts and very creative. Quite lively, imaginative, and once in a while kind of subtle and even spacey. He's taking the large catalogue and going places.

The more I see of John, the more I appreciate him. Love that funky rhythm that he lays down. More of a hard rock guy, so he has pretty much escaped my radar but definitely very talented.

John is by far Randy Rhoads, however aside from the manufactured radio songs and dating Hollywood starlets - John has put the work in as a devoted player, he truly loves the art of guitar.

Just sad to see so many haters. He is a great guitarist and people hating on him for so and so reasons is just unfair to him. You can dislike him as a person but his skills are undeniable.
