Rami Niranjan Desai is an Author, Anthropologist and a scholar of the North East region of India. She focuses on ethnic identity, tribal issues and insurgency. She also comments and keeps a track of developments on the Indo Pacific and current affairs. She regularly writes in all major newspapers and is a panelist on Hindi and English news channels.

Professor Bimol Akoijam teaches at the Centre for the Study of Social Systems, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Earlier, he was with the University of Delhi and the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, Delhi. Besides being a scholar-activist, he is also a filmmaker and theatre enthusiast.

Meiteis have shed blood to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur since ages. Those who have not shed blood, they want to sever it. Meiteis will not allow it. That's very clear and it should be cleared to the other community too. Shouting at Jantar Mantar may hide the truth for sometime but very soon world will come to know who created the conflict and why.

Tears comes to my eyes when Professor talk about "hand bite by mother to son or daughter when they left home for work". For non-meiteis - its significance is - I (mother) cut & throw out all the danger in ur way, come back home safely.

It is usually performed by a mother for son or daughter but when Professor explain in the retaliatory attack any elder of no relationship bite the hand of voluntary defence member, I can't stop my tear 😢😢. It has very deep emotional attachment for us (Meiteis). 🙏🙏

This is eye opening. Like many others I was also blaming meties for current violence. Kukis are getting all the sympathy while Meties are being vilanised when in reality they are actual victims of wrong government policies.
