Interestingly all the male former Ss directors who were in post at all previous assassination attempts including JFK, Reagan, Roosevelt, Ford, where the Ss were found to be at fault (all the above) never resigned. Some staying in post a further ten years. It was only after JFK did the Ss demand no more open top cars, even though Roosevelt's attempt was him in an open top car, and carried on using one afterwards.
