I worked in London for 30 years and I would highly recommend the 'Premier Inn' hotel chain, you will not go wrong and very fairly priced.

I usually stay in south Kensington near Gloucester Rd or Earls Court. Love those areas

So glad you added this video! We decided to stay in Kensington to be close to the parks.

Hello guys! Love your videos! ❤️ We went to London for the 1st time last December and we loved it! We stayed by Marble Arch and will stay again around that area on our next visit. So convenient! Paddington station’s so close, underground’s just around the corner, Selfridges and M&S, Mayfair is just right there and Winter Wonderland’s across the street! 😃

Dont write off the ol London buses as a good way to get around too. Yep they take longer but you get to see way more of the city than you do buried underground in a tube. Navigation is a breeze using Google Maps. For our 10 days in London we probably used 75/25 buses/tube

People should look further out too. I live four minutes from my local station by bus and 10-15 minutes from central London on the Tube. Guest houses and small hotels are cheaper here. The beer's cheaper here too and we get American tourists sometimes in my local pub. They're on a budget and want to cut accomodation costs plus there's food from all over the planet for breakfast. A couple of years ago a guy from Connecticut turned up who had managed to get a $190 dollar last minute return flight. He had also bought a ticket to watch a football (soccer) match between two second tier teams he followed (Watford & Queens Park Rangers). He came in twice, before & after the match, and then went home. He sent the pub a postcard when he got back. He enjoyed his trip and so did we.

I stayed in Bloomsbury on my last trip. Affordable hotels, near The British Museum, near KingsCross if you are flying in/out of Standsted, taking the Eurostar over to Paris or headed to Norfolk for tge day. Not too far from Euston Station if getting the overnight sleeper to Scotland. A 15-20 minute walk to Oxford Street shopping.

I try to stay just ‘downhill’ from Covent Garden as I use the Tesla Express by Waterloo Bridge, and I love sitting on the south side of the river, watching the world pass me by.

The problem with giving accommodation advice is the next time you want to stay you may find everything booked out however thank you for your information. 😊

Thanks for the information my husband and I are heading to London soon. We are staying in the Marylebone area. We are in between two tube stations Edgeware road and the Marylebone station. The hotel we got was a budget hotel.

Surprised my old neighbourhood wasn’t mentioned, Stepney 😮 nah, not really a place for tourists when I lived there. I was born 15 minutes walk to The Tower of London and used to hang out there weekends and holidays even bunking inside for nothing sometimes. Used to walk up to Trafalgar Square in the summer holidays, walk past St Paul’s, down Fleet St, it was an amazing childhood.

I am planning a trip and hoping to stay at least 3 weeks. I am pretty sure that I have settled on the Wilde Aparthotel Paddington because they have a kitchen and laundry facilities. It is a couple of blocks from the Station and there is an M&S food hall a block away. To me, it looks like an amazing location.

Thank you for the information! I am going to London in the summer and planning my trip now, so this is very helpful. It is so hard to pick a hotel because there are so many of them and so many areas, but I jotted it down to Covent Garden or South of the river...I would like to be able to walk to the main attractions if possible...

Love the areas north and south of Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens but in terms of convenience Paddington seemed easy enough to access everywhere else. London is a great place to establish a home base and explore from because transit is so easy to use, and the city is extremely walkable. Unless you deliberately seek lux it's amazing what you can find less than lux but better than budget so it's in your interest to spend some time to shop for options. Paddington Apartments was cheaper than upscale and better than budget and you have your own small apartment with en-suite with good staff. Budget a nice meal or several but we were surprised how much we liked grab-and-go from Pret a Manger and the Sainsbury Local inside Paddington Station - it's far better than Subway and provides healthy options without breaking the bank. The Underground and Bus system are fantastic and I think are part of the experience in London but don't underestimate what you can find just by walking. A two-hour walk around Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens took us into Marylebone where we found Briciole a fantastic Italian restaurant on Homer Street which became one of many highlights we had when we visited London last year. Definitely planning a return trip.

Could you please add a video about grocery shopping in London?

Now for those of us w/o loadsamoney, last year I did 2 nights in an Airbnb at Islington area. Smallish room, all basic facilities inc TV & access to shower/loo etc. approx. 50 quid/night, would do again. Over a mile from Angel tube so that would exclude Americans I guess, or those with heavy luggage. You could taxi it no doubt. Has the advantage to me of being near the all-you-can-eat Indian vegetarian restaurant (10 quid a pop, you can bring your own alcohol, or free tap water). This is on Chapel Market, 5 mins from Angel tube, used it loads. Only drawback is the hipster clientele, oh well

It seems that no matter how good my intentions I invariably wind up staying at one of the dodgy(ish) hotels around Argyle Square. Generally cheap and (mostly) clean they have the advantage of being right across the Euston Road from Kings Cross/St. Pancras which probably makes it the most connected area I've found in the City. I might try to branch out after seeing your video if I can break my mental block. Thanks for the ideas, even if they don't manage to change my habits.

“Enjoy Oxford Street” ? Wow that’s a challenge 😂. It’s worth knowing that all the areas featured here are central and therefore often poor value for money unless your budget runs to luxury hotels. If you go outside the centre you’ll usually find much better value. Richmond for example has a beautiful location, easily accessed to the centre on the District Line and other areas around London as it’s a transport hub. Walks from there beside the Thames are wonderful.
