The Internet Archive has been around for decades, working as a non-profit to archive parts of the web. However, a hacker group was allegedly wanting to make a point, and decided to breach the website, claiming it was because of the U.S. government. There is also other controversy with the WaybackMachine, such as removing sections about Taylor Lorenz.

Everyone loves the Internet Archive and we're only now noticing. Would be kinda funny to imagine them being like: "Let's pretend we get attacked, let people truly know what they're going to miss, and restore everything in a few days." More people should donate to the internet archive rather than their mediocre online content creators.

This is so funny, the hackers who did this probably tried to hide something from the public but now more then ever, there are curious eyes all over the globe trying to understand why this happened in the first place. So these bad guys just level up their chances of been caught of what they are hiding. I love this irony.

like i live in romania and the revolution of 1989 is talked about in history classes usually no matter the grade during middle school and high school.

Hacking IA in general is the stupidest thing that has been done lately because IA is an important Digital History Archive for humanity and the Wayback Machine is a popular tool and IA doesn't even work under the US government. The thing that eases my mind is that IA is starting to recover from what just happened, they managed to get the site back online and this was not the end, but the perpetrators of the hacking should still be held accountable for their crime. And still this episode was so dumb that I've had a hard time getting some of my friends to believe that the news about IA being hacked is true and not fake or "too unbelievable to be true" or any media war influencing and trolling, and now it's even harder because it's back online whereas the site being temporarily offline was proof that the hacking really happened. But it's super good that they are back online and we didn't lose IA to hackers.

Excellent video. The Internet Archive is part of the modern-day Checks & Balances that helps those who fact check the government. I remember using the Wayback Machine to review definitions of words when the far-left democrats claimed certain words always meant something and dictionary companies would rush to add to or change their definitions in the middle of the night.
