Canada won the Hlinka Gretzky Cup for the third straight year after defeating Czechia 2-1 in Saturday's gold medal game from Edmonton.

Liam Kilfoil of the QMJHL's Halifax Mooseheads and Caleb Desnoyers of the QMJHL's Moncton Wildcats opened the scoring for the Canadians with goals in the first period. Canada weren't able to find the back of the net in the second period on seven shots or the final period on five shots.

Czechia winger Tomas Poletin gave his side slight hope late in the third period when he scored with nine seconds remaining in the game, but it was too little, too late.

Canada goalie Jack Ivankovic stopped 18 of 19 shots from Czechia while the Canadians had a total of 26 shots on net.

Only 4 goals against the whole tournament... Canada hasnt had much luck with goaltending for a few years now so its nice to see Carter George(U-18) and Jack Ivankovic giving us hope again for that.

Desnoyers and guite played really well desnoyers may not have had all the points in the world but he was out there throwing the body around and getting involved on danger chance after chance, there was a few others on this team that really grew there stock for there draft, desnoyers is heading back to a loaded team too could end up being a top 10 pick. Happy with the results now let’s get another starting on Boxing Day

Ivankovic REALLY reminds me of Carey Price back in the early 00's. He's got the technique, sure, but he has the instincts as well, and reads the play like a champ. I wonder if next year a team will break the trend of not selecting goaltenders in the top 10 of the draft, and pick him there. 'Cause he's an absolute stud.

Also, how about them Czechs? I'm really glad they're a 1st-tier team now, because they've worked so hard for it. A bit of a shame that Finland seems to be taking a step back though. And the U18s of today are the juniors of tomorrow, so it doesn't look great for them.

the world juniors would be the same as the Hlinka if it was also best on best every year. Imagine Canada's team this year - Bedard, Celebrini, Zach Benson, Easton Cowan, Berkly Catton, Andrew Cristall, Carson Rehkopf, Bradley Nadeau, Brayden Yager, Tij Iginla, Riley Heidt, Gavin McKenna. Every team is getting blown out with that roster.

One would get the impression Western Canada has hosted too many of these types of Jr tournaments. The people are no longer interested in going to see it.

Would be nice if a group of Canadian players could actually bring the Stanley cup to Canada. Lost interest in pro hockey because Canadian teams never win the cup.
