This Display Replaces Your Light Switch!? - Sonoff NSPanel Review

Sonoff recently announced the Sonoff NSPanel, a Smart Switch with a touch display that allows you to control all of your smart home devices in one room all from one central smart home panel. It features a touch display, esp32 and a Nextion Display, works with Home Assistant and has the potential to be flashed with firmware like ESPHome or Tasmota. But, have there been any shortcuts taken with the Sonoff NSPanel and just how good is it?

Anyone interested in picking one of these up? Who wants to flash one?! 😱

Kickstarter starter now live, pricing is great:

Man, I wish Sonoff should realise their market position and worked more tightly with Home Assistant. Imagine there was an option to control HA entities -- whew, they would sold out immediately.

I mean, if there ever is an ESPhome sketch we could use to flash it, I'll definitely try it out.

omg this is awesome - I've been playing with nextion displays for a while now on a breadboard but this single package is a gamechanger for me!!!

Awesome! It would be absolutely amazing if we can flash a custom firmware that also supports room-assistant for per-room presence detection.

A few more sensors like motion-sensor, proximity for the dimming of the panel itself and light level would make this a no-brainer. Home-Assistant compatibility provided...

Good to see a UK version as I’m from Scotland and it’s always difficult to find a uk addition on YouTube like this great video.

this is the kind of smart tech I've been dreaming about for years, be nice if they could do a range of sizes and very much looking forward to the tasmota flashing video

At last a decent review, thanks for the clarity and Scottish accent a bonus! :)

Maybe the internal temperature sensor is warming up with internal heat of the display.

What is a huge issue for this is that most homes, at least where I live, have their light switches about 1m-1, 20m from the floor. These panels look awsome but if you are looking and reaching down all the time it gets old real fast. So it might be a direct drop in, but in a lot of cases it would be worthwhile to move the actual switch upwards. Depending on the wall type this is not always easy.

I just installed one - I love it. Wish the instructions let me know about swiping up so I could change the Landscape to Portrait orientation. I would love to have access to a larger panel as I have a lot of devices. Camera integration would be very helpful, as well.

As someone looking at Smart Switches and swindled into spending fucking $129 total for a fucking completely useless Caseta Light Switch & another $74 for a fucking TOTALLY USELESS fan switch, this is God damn CHEAP at $74.90.
Tell them they're about to get a customer with a ton of orders as soon as this thing drops.

10/10 exactly what I was looking for in a smart switch. Controls lights through panel, has alternative functionality tied to it, can still be used on app...and if turned off, doesn't disable the device. God damn. Finally.

Thank you for making this video. I'm adding this to my favorites, following you, and 100% buying this the moment it drops.

I'm with the folks that want to keep there stuff out of the cloud. I'm also into home automation, and I'm not sold on the idea that a fancy light switch -- operated manually -- really meets that goal.

Looks really nice. But i like to fully integrate it in H.A. if not then it is useless to me. Thanks for the review!

the temperature sensor could be picking up the internal heat of the unit as well I don't have one but I'm sure the screen gets warm which adds a few degrees for the sensor to pick up

if it requires a login to a cloud service, there is no way I'm installing it in my home. People need to be more aware of the risks of buying products that require a cloud login to function, or proprietary mobile apps.

The need for a neutral wire at the light switch is a real killer for older homes where only the live wire is present at the switch. That's a shame because the panel looks awesome with real potential if/when it can be fully integrated with Home Assistant local control.

Yeah I'll definitely replace all my current sonoff light switches with this. But still run a main dashboard on a tablet in the kitchen. This beats me having to buy multiple dashboards for each room and having to worry about powering them, getting the mount on the wall perfect and all that. Especially here in South Africa its not as easy to cut a hole in a wall :D

Cant wait to get my hands on 1, as you mentioned, would love a lovelace display on this!! Size options would be nice, and options for more physical buttons, 3/4 gang switches 👍

Hi again. It seems that Sonoff has released a new firmware version that supports Home Assistant natively without the need for flashing. Maybe you could do a followup video?
