Communication is a powerful tool I have experienced in school that just having internet access/ WIFI with a working smart phone that has good camera very useful in transitioning from classes, keeping in 24/7 contact with teachers if you have WIFI at home and the minister of education is very correct looking back I can positively say you need a laptop for highschool 100% your own laptop not share . You need a laptop for video editing, word, research, storing and organizing your photos for easy access MORE INFO BELOW.

LAPTOPS for Jamaican high schools- having laptops for our highschools are very important and is not just for looking good

1. TD students are well out of date with the real world and need to use Auto CAD not regular drawing,

2. laptops are needed for video editing I have occasions were teaches told my class to edit video's and bring I had to learn without a teacher,

3. laptops with word and power point programs are necessary so students can split the work, load instead of relaying on 1 individual

4. A laptop is a swiss army knife that can do things average people arent aware of some teachers and parents fail miserably to do basic tak such as

A. organize there folders, pictures and videos in a format superficially easy to navigate and having great reasonable depth,
The failure to easily organize your laptop documents will create the effect of having single folders and binders of information thrown on the floor of a room. Greatly making user experience miserable and time consuming .

B. Teenagers and adult need to be thought how to care for there devices as this can greatly effect the device long-term use. You can do subtle everyday habits which place your laptop at risk of DEATH like .

b1. Don't place your laptop on your bed without a book under it you will damage the battery lifespan and use time , don't leave any part of the laptop that heats up on the bed without a book.

b2. Don't place or use your laptop on the ground ever you or someone else can step and break it without thinking.

b3. Don't place your laptop in a bag/ school bag not designed or doesn't have reasonable shock absorption into it people treat other people bags rough on a daily basis sorry cant fix laptops.

b4. don't ever place drinks or drink from containers which deform from shock near a laptop

b5. dont hold your laptop in weird position in your lap as a habit .

I know the things above especially 4b seems trivial but it's very serious doing these things on a daily basis will 100% destroy laptop or any other device. I have seen 2 devices of people close to me be destroyed before there time by doing these things a person held the laptop in there laps leaned forward repeatedly 1 day some clumsy reaction it fell and broke another person stored laptop on ground no surprise one day the screen cracked .

lastly is personal but the same in nature was charging a tablet on the under a chair at school its a common charging spot everyone charges up there its the back of the class someone moved my device out of the chair undercarriage to charge there device and for some reason thought to rest the device on the ground instead of on the chair then 2 guys were running down each other around the class and went around the back and stepped on the device.

Don't play with Murphy's law or it will play with you the stated above seem like common sense, but to this day I still see people practice the above after I talk to them mostly by accident.

LAPTOP SPECS
O yes specs all laptops to be given to students should be at least on the level of Ryzen 3 its intel equivalent is intel core i3 -7100 as that's the lowest possible minimum for AutoCAD to work properly without all type of crazy lags and glitches as the memory of the PC gets filled .

LASTLY

The use of laptops in our school's especially high school cant be overstated and should be mandatory not out of sophistication but it is necessary 100% All schools should have at least 2 printing machines because those machines are really being worked and last minute teachers request + day to day staff request with 40 students per class is not pretty. If a program is implemented with adequate battery life and processor power laptops with the proper way of how to treat and store them ( I recommend a dresser top) expect to see better productivity and grades in our schools.
