Professional athletes shouldn’t need a coach to motivate them. Playing hard is a personal choice, and also a responsibility to your teammates. A coach can “talk” to players and help them out with holes their game. If they see results, the confidence will build. You can’t be successful unless you’re confident you can make a difference out there, otherwise you’ll hide and stay out of the battles. This is what we’re seeing from 93, 23, 20, 13, 16. They don’t want the puck. The best way to get back your confidence is to get in the small battles and play physical. This is not a time to cower, it’s a time to get right in the dirty areas and prove to yourself that you can win the tough challenges. A coach can’t help you with that. They need to get their minds right…

Joe Quinnville wouldnt be able to change things either. Players are uncoachable.

Many times I’ve felt proud and grateful to have Zibanejad as a Ranger. But somehow I can’t see him as part of the solution now. If he can’t be moved, they should just communicate to him that they understand he is not really a 1C/point per game player, they don’t expect that of him, and if he can just chill out and play like a $3-4m/year player then that is much better than being a total head case.

It doesn’t always take a trade to shake a team up. Make healthy scratches of your veterans who aren’t playing up to snuff. *Cough* Mika *Cough*. Miller needs to watch a few games from the press box too.

Last year they had so many comeback wins and I feel like it was good and bad. It was good because they never gave up in games. It was bad because it made them not care about defense as much. Idk, just a thought

WE NEED A TASK MASTER COACH TO SIT DOWN THE PRIMA DONNAS

This is what I've been telling people, this team needs to focus on making hockey fun again. Too much pressure too soon has contributed to the spiral. With that they have to play like a unit...one mistake (ie Zibanejad) shouldn't cost you the game...because he's been a repeat offender this year of course it draws attention but they only scored one goal, a short handed goal agains the Hawks...this is a big problem

While Lavi isn’t the only problem he is part of the problem. Why did Miller get the most minutes of any D-man the other night after lazy defensive plays?
And why did Edstrom, who was one of the best players on the ice in the 1st period barely get 6 minutes of ice time?

In the words of the late great Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach John McKay after being asked by a reporter “coach, what do you think of your team’s execution”? John’s response “ I’m all for it”… fitting after a 2-8 …10 game Rangers performance

Good coverage, and I appreciate the perspective. I just want to get a few things off my chest. Firstly, Lavi is deff the better of the 2 coaches between him and gallant. Although I agree to a certain degree if you make it to this level professionally as a player, you shouldn’t need to be coached as hard, when you’re wallowing in self pity and forgetting the cornerstones of what it means to play this game then yeah, it will be a coaches job to rectify that as much as possible.

We are a team that was making playoffs consistently and despite the core being the same, and despite the short comings. We can’t afford to have players like (Mika who’s a ghost post season) or Miller who is a sloppy turn over machine… if they can’t turn it around. They need to get back to the basics of playing the body, having “serviceable” 5 on 5 hockey (since our power play was our identity, derivable 5 on 5 is acceptable, doesn’t need to be great”) and not turning over the puck like a strunz

I saw Peter Laviolette do stuff like this a dozen times the first year he coached with Wheeling in the ECHL. Just wait…you’ll see!

the funny thing is players that play physical are the ones we trade away and players that play soft remain.

I'm sure we'll hear the same thing from Miller after he's shipped out for peanuts.

Stop the punishment ideas!!! They need to come together, help each other, do what guys do to get revved up, ROAR, GROWL…. Mika has always been the ‘big brother’, supportive of his teammates! Now each of them needs to take on that role for each other and especially for him!! Do it now, we, the fans love you and have faith in you! Get out there and kick some a—❤

As a canes fan its been great to watch this implosion.

Downside is that you just know they will magically get a great pick from bettman in the "lottery" once they miss the playoffs.

over the last couple of years My NY Rangers have come up short (not in the pay contracts), I felt the 'Goalie' while playing well brought the most negative karma with his pay disputes; DO the players still love playing hockey? they don't seem to be a team, know what each other are doing and they have no rhythm, thus no matter which players they have they will continue to fall short though out the season and in the playoffs, bring back coach Vigneault
