I've got a theory why they look so strange:It could've been inbreeding but I've got another theory. Skrills. If you pay attention to Thunder's and the other night light's wings, at the "elbow" part, he has a spike, something some dragons have, like the dragons from wings of fire....That was something Toothless and Lightfury didn't have, but the Skrills did! Plus, the way their chest and legs are formed. You also gotta realise Thunder can disperse lightning like a pulse and also have lightning beams. So.... My theory is that they also bred with Skrills! Plus, it's also bad design 😂

Looking at this, I realize that HTTYD3 isn't the worst thing that has happened to the franchise yet.

they could have fixed this. instead of imply that the furies are horribly inbred (no, literally in the show it's cannon that toothless and his mate all "brought back" the population of nightlights via, making the eggs) they could have had hiccup travel after his kid became chieftain and discover a small colony of night furies that grimmel missed, maybe have some nightlights there as well and show that they ushered hem back to the hidden world. Or hell maybe it wasnt hiccup, maybe he goes to visit toothless for tail maintenance and finds out that one of T's kiddos found the other furies and even found a mate in one of them. Anything makes more sense than what the lore of this story is
