Wow, I just read that some states are looking for COBOL programmers to handle their antiquated unemployment claims software (our tax dollars hard at work!). Just looking at the first few minutes of this tutorial it reminds me of the old IBM RPG language with the specification forms, where everything has to be in a certain column on each line. I started out learning that, and I think it stunted my programming education for quite a while afterward. It did have a purpose and was very efficient in its own way, but man, it was extremely weird to code in it.

Very nice introduction to z/OS COBOL !
I hope you will continue to publish these interesting videos.
Would love to see a small example of a COBOL program using CICS (or another full-screen system?) for input/retrieval of data with (ISAM-)file access. Do you think IBM should provide a SCREEN SECTION to their COBOL compiler ?
Any idea where I could get free access to an IBM mainframe as a learning system ?
I tried several but to limited (e.g. no CICS access).
Best regards,
J.M.
