Equity 101 : Creating a Culture of Equity
How can school culture be equitable for all students? In a school that is driving towards equity, there are two primary considerations around culture: 1. The learning culture or environment of the school; and 2. The cultural proficiency of the educators. Both of these needs must be worked on so that the classroom is an environment where each individual student sees him or herself in the learning, knows that they are understood and respected by the teacher and staff, are supported within their learning, and encouraged to excel in all they do. Learn how culture is a defining characteristic of educational equity and how it is the key to engaging all students on the road to success.
