If we want to figure out the shape of a molecule, we need to know the sigma and lone pair electrons.If we know that, we can find the number of vesper pairs and find the shape of a molecule.Our teacher has given us an easy way.Find the total number of valance shell electrons and divide it by 8 example in H2O, (In this method H valence electrons should be considered as 7)
H=7×2
O=6 So 20/8=2
Pairing reminder 4 gives 2 .
So ( 2, 2)
So VESPER Pair 4(2+2) So moluculer shape is bent .
But in this method, Not all molecules can be shaped in this simple way, some cannot.The solution can be found by drawing the structures of molecules.But there is a problem with this. It is that in order to draw the structure we need to find the atom that comes to the center and base structure.The central atom and base structure of some molecules is easy to find and some is hard
