We have a hen who is sitting on fertile eggs. First time in the three years we have been homesteading. I learned hens instinctively know when a chick has died in the egg & will promptly kick it out of her nest. When she first went broody, I didn't think any of her eggs were fertilized. 10 days ago, I saw a cracked egg on the floor of her coop. I took it out & opened it up. Inside was an embryo!! I couldn't believe it. After researching development stages, the embryo looked to be 8 to 10 days old. If I am right, her eggs will hatch any day now! Exciting stuff :)
