Gish Gallop

I could've used any number of manosphere-types as an example! Because they all do this. They know just enough to be dangerous; but not enough to be correct. #gishgallop #debate #rhetoric #persuasion #fallacy

Bro, I can't even begin to explain how hard you failed in this video. If you looked up gish gallop there would be a picture of Destiny.

There is a difference between a speaker doing a gish gallop and an audience not being able to follow a sustained argument.

To my ears, Peterson only made two claims: 1) Occupational preferences are determined by biological differences and 2) Social engineering accelerates rather than reverses those preferences.

Following the plot here is easy and refuting it would be a matter of simply pointing to data that says otherwise, if such data exists. This is not a gish gallop.

Destiny uses this style of debate so to call it “alt right” is laughable

Peterson is likely the worst example you could use since we’ve seen him be more than willing to come back to and address each issue slowly

People who say this never watched Duane Gish’s debates. He was just good at debating, and his sore loser opponents slandered him by saying he used unfair tactics. He was just correct. Nothing alt-right about it

You forgot to mention if you have a dogmatic worldview like you do, it isn’t possible to change your mind or or stay away from logical fallacies like calling Peterson an alt right member

I don’t even like Jordan Peterson but to call him “alt-right” is absolutely ludicrous.

21:25 unfortunately that was a loaded question they had for you. Your true answer should have been enough. You would have been lying to them if you told them they will never lose you. You did the right thinking in voicing your true thoughts even though you got punished after. It is not your job to lie to them to make them feel better. Even though it was scary your answer helped you get out of this. Seriously good on you. And I’m so so sorry you are going through this. Sending love your way.

This was the ABSOLUTE WORST EXAMPLE to choose of the gish gallop considering it didn’t even fit the definition you gave 5 seconds before hand

Parker Short recently pulled a kamikaze maneuver with Charlie Kirk’s Gish galloping by simply interrupting him. Stopping the gallop dead in its tracks. I say kamikaze bc he came out looking rude and abrasive for “not letting Charlie finish his points” but he successfully exposed his logic to scrutiny. If you’re willing to make yourself the villain of any interaction, interrupt a Gish galloping immediately.

Please explain how JP is wrong, oh, he’s on the wrong side of some imaginary consensus? Please, you have all day to make your argument and you settle on… he says too much too fast. Very insightful.

There was a study from around 2010 where babies of both genders were put in a room with toy tractor and a doll. Barbie or something similar. Then they tracked the movements of the babies eyes and body. The boys tended to be more interested in the tractor and the girls more interested in the doll.
There’s a Norwegian documentary called “Hjernevask” (brainwash) about this subject. The difference between male and female. I recommend you watch it before you make wild statements how JP is wrong. It’s not his own thoughts, it’s from studies he had read. He’s very clear when it’s his own opinion and when it’s from research and studies.

Poor example that's actually a counter example to what you're saying, Peterson only addressed one issue and he wasn't on the wrong side of the "consensus" at all

You guys say right wingers love to gallop but don't mention Destiny. King spew

Shouldn't the point be whether the things being said are true? Instead of deciding that they are things that you don't want to believe in, and finding a way to gaslight the person stating the information?
I noticed this same thing in atheists/evolutionary arguments. It's not nearly as catchy as the Gish Gallop... watch the Ken Ham vs Bill Nye debate. Nye has the personality, but he just kept throwing his evidence for his beliefs at Ken Ham (even though there wouldn't be a way to answer everything and stay on Topic... which Nye didn't care about anyway). I just called it the shotgun approach (getting fired at with several missiles at once). But whether it's Nye or whether it's Gish... the point should be whether the information is true and not how to gaslight people.
