DIY VR Hand Tracker for DCS World

DIY hand tracker for DCS World. My own code, hardware design, build and assembly. Working principle is simple- I'm using a modified PS3 Eye camera with an infrared filter to track an infrared LED on the glove. Inspired by PointCTRL. A donor wireless mouse supplied the right and left click functionality. I wrote the tracking software in Python, with the help of many online tutorials.

This allows you to click buttons in the cockpit with your hands without having to reach for a mouse or VR controller.

There is slight latency, but it feels much more immersive than a mouse. Also there's slight jankiness because I used a low-quality fish-eye lens to increase the tracking FOV.

Let me know what you think! You can PM me for the code and build plans. Total bill of materials cost is less than USD35, including a second hand PS3 Eye camera. It's a 2D mouse moving solution, so it will work on XPlane. Does not work on MSFS 2020 due to the way they implemented their VR mouse solution.

very impressive ! bravo !
the point-control process where CaptoGloves is struggling for x-years and you seem to have it nailed perfectly. just some work on the latency ;-)
now commercialise it and you have a flow of DCS'ers waiting to pay you their order !!!

very nice gloves!! It will be nice if you do a detail video about the construction or just sell them. Thanks

I have so many questions on what is going on with your helmet.

I would be very curious if this would be accurate enough to sync with a physical cockpit mockup. Being able to guide your fingers virtually, but have them accurately manipulate real physical buttons, would be the height of VR, the only thing short of a magic AR cockpit.

Could you upload your code and build plans somewhere? Mega or Google drive maybe? Youtube removed the PM feature, so I cant PM you.
