This is of Straits Chinese provenance, the diamonds set in a special 'box' style.

This box setting combines the prong and bezel to fill up the gaps between diamonds, in turn enlarging how they display.

Each box links to the other through a single link, this organic way is also seen in Georgian diamond or 18th century paste jewelry.

The SI diamonds are a mixed lot of white and off white, but the whole necklace has a treasured antiquity, and in white gold, a certain Art Deco flair.
