For more than a century industrialisation has spread across much of the world.
The planet is getting warmer and the places on it, where humanity can live healthily, are getting fewer.
The UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change - or IPCC - has brought together scientists from 195 countries to solve the problem.
In the last eight months, it's published two reports looking at the causes and effects of climate change.
Its third one has just been released, suggesting what we can do to reverse the damage.
So what should be done to limit this damage?

Presenter: Rob Matheson

Guests:

Andy Reisinger - Member of the Bureau of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and Vice-Chair of Working Group III (Mitigation).

Syeda Rizwana Hasan - Chief Executive of the Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association and Goldman Environmental Prize winner.

Stephan Singer - Senior Climate Science and Global Energy Policy Adviser at Climate Action Network International.

The world will listen more to scientists and take drastic measures if something is presented which will help the financial industries to make more money.

The largest carbon polluters have a self-interested obligation to provide renewable technology and infrastructure to poorer nations if the planet is to remain below 2 degrees Celsius in average global temperature.

Thank you so much Al-Jazeera for highlighting this issue. Unfortunately this is a situation of war and this can worsen the climate and lead to major problems from taking place. This issue should be on priority one.

2:04 the same figure, 21 million people, are in poverty in the United Kingdom but in the UK it's entirely because of Government policy so is, in theory, reversible.

If one of the richest countries in the world refuses to look after its own population what chance does the world have?

Expanding cities, building large building to cutting down trees and making factories... it's really effect our environment. Big rich guys don't look down, their is lots of people can't afford basic needs of common people that can afford. People are dying day by day ... climate effect really big issues

When people are dying of thirst while others are in air conditioning ..don't preach to me accountability

I think it's like the Apollo 13 movie when one of the astronauts said that the people at mission control did not know how to get them home! The politicians read climate science articles and watch youtube climate channels. They know it's probably too late.

A significant piece of information is routinely missed. Good example in video when reporter states that increases in emissions occurs in spite of new renewables being installed. Reality of our time is that every year 80 million net new precious humans join us. That's approximately 10 New York City's worth of infrastructure required annually. Food, clothing, housing, education, transportation etc.. Add the other reality of underdeveloped nations trying to provide their citizens with a decent life.

Poor quality reporting! This format does not give enough time for responses. Furthermore, the speakers are ill-prepared for short answers...

Switching off current for everyone rich and poor will only make them realise, how hot it has become. Make a global "no electricity" day.

The cost of renewables may be competitive with fossil fuels but that's only good for those with the capital and willing to buy them and while fossil fuel users don't HAVE to buy renewables they're not going to do it when in their opinions it's too expensive to do so and borrowing to do it makes them uncompetitive with renewable users. There's no avoiding making fossil fuels unacceptable and forcing users to stop using them if we want to prevent extinction. It's as simple as that when to be safe from climate disasters that are already costing millions of lives every year we have to extract CO2. Business as usual and waffle waffle waffle means that we want to continue killing millions until politics and business change their minds and do what's right to stop the slaughter. The dinosaurs are an example of how the most powerful life on the planet didn't have the brains and minds to save themselves. Where we're at now, the same applies to the most powerful humans on the planet who are controlling and supporting genocidal climate change despite been told by the most learned minds that it's suicidal, which makes it seem that we're helpless in the power of the most ruthless and most ignorant minds on the planet; they too are going to suffer the same as the millions already killed from atmospheric warming gases but the profits from it seems to determine their intentions and all our fates.

I believe Climate change is already upon us. But I am skeptical of the projections like many others which have go e completely wrong.
Have Scientists factored in POPULATION IMPLOSION ? This will be a serious discussion among developed countries even before 2030. China will also see the same. Even India population will flatten much before present projections.
With negative population growth in the developed countries who use maximum earth resources, there will be a strong positive impact on climate change on 2030s and 2040s.

Each person has to take responsibility for theplanet, not just politicians. I bet u all drive, fly and leave heaps of garbage. Nothing will change because you all just blame politicians

In sometime early last year i watched a quite interesting docoment on National Geographic where apparently a scientist explained a total different view about climate change and even stated that there is widely evidence of quite a few scientist internally with the same view but unfortunately there view is completely blocked by whatever force, he was so amazed that they are even using a young girl that dont know half of what he studied almost 30yrs i think, to travel the world by land and sea trying to inform the world about climate change.Well i dont know anymore whose fooling who in this crazy world anymore, one thing for sure, it all comes down to MONEY MONEY MONEY.
