I bought a Surface Go on Day 1. I was pretty excited about the promise of it. But the reality... Yikes. This is my review of the 8GB RAM 128GB SSD Microsoft Surface Go. Watch for yourself.

FYI: I may get commissions for purchases made through links in this post.

why are you running 4k content on that little device in the first place? dude you need to get yourself together. You should know your tech

So the title of the video should really be: "Review? Microsoft Surface Go. Chrome Kinda Sucks"

Honestly what did you expect?
The device starts at $400, $450 with a NVMe SSD, you get a full magnesium body, excellent speakers, high definition, bright & color accutrate (sRGB) IPS panel, very decent build quality an IR & a (astonishingly good) webcam for 3D facial recognition...
Yeah, it has 5W CPU without turbo boost for a full grown PC OS that's a flaw but I really wonder to what device in your mind are comparing it, because honestly, only holding the go I was truely bewildered how MS could come up with that price point.

And btw you may not like it (I certainly don't) but Edge is faster on such devices (also valid for the core m/ y7 surfaces).

literally put the keyboard behind the tablet
you are shockingly dull

it has been 10 years since you bought a windows laptop … but ... if you want a laptop, why did you buy a 10" tablet? you should buy one of the macbook air competitors (e.g. 13" hp or dell convertibles) that can be used as tablets too but mainly are laptops and geared for that task.

i think you misjudged and chose the wrong device for what you were aiming at.

the surface go is intended to be used mostly as a secondary device, like an ipad with the added benefit of doubling as a tiny laptop in a pinch that can give you access to the vast software library that windows supports. it is meant for basic sketching, note taking and media consumption. anything more demanding than that gaming or foto/video editing (beyond basic apps and minor tweaking) will overtax it's capabilities.

for an actual day to day driver you need to opt for a surface pro if you want something from that lineup or one of the many premium ultrabooks out there.

your big mistake however was using chrome. it is the sh*ttiest browser for windows out there. it leaks memory something crazy and in its current iteration starts out gobbling up several gigabytes even before you load the first tab. chrome even has performance issues on my desktop and workstation pcs (i7 and ryzen 8core based systems) under windows. i have gotten rid of this piece of crap after months of frustation. running it on this tablet is like putting 10 tons of stones on a bike and then wondering why it has gone all flat and squished :P

try another browser … any other browser … an you will see that stuttering is not an issue anymore - your youtube load times currently will suck though on firefox and edge, because google uses non-standard libraries (only working on chrome … what a surprise) which causes several second Long delays in text and comment loading. this was made public by mozilla a week back and is a (likely deliberate) attempt of google to abuse their position and get people into using chrome through sabotage rather than building a browser worth using (which reminds me of the bad old internet explorer 6 days to be frank … no wonder they removed the "don't be evil" motto).

I just bought the 8gb variant and im using Edge right out of the box in S mode and the browser does lag most of the time especially when im on YouTube and I only have like 5-6 tabs open which is only eating up about 2gb or RAM. Even typing lags. scrolling lags. Webpages load slower than usual, exactly like what you said in your video.. I have yet to install/download ANYTHING on this device.. not sure whats wrong with mine

The review was bad, I agree Microsoft should have went with a core m3 over a Pentium but seriously does the iPad allow you to run the full desktop chrome ? It's not MS fault that chrome despite their claims sucks for touch screen or low end devices despite google claiming the opposite for years with reviewers backing them without any practical tests on low end hardware, I say that as I use chrome on a core i5 8th gen yet chrome is still laggy, jittery on touch screens compared to edge which is blazing fast .

The iPad still uses safari but you don't complain but complain on edge which is significantly better . As such I agree that a laptop is a better buy than a surface go but it's also way better than an iPad .

Tell me how at 4:12 you said the surface is THEY ARE THE SAME EXCEPT FOR THE EDGES!

At 7:01, you could just fold the cover under the kickstand... so the kickstand is touching the cover instead of the table

I found your review to be useful. Still trying to decide though if my next upgrade should be a classic laptop with Windows or this Surface Go. Even though I use an Iphone I need the productivity of Windows 10.

good that I saw your review before I almost was going to buy this device! Chrome and Youtube are really what I want to have in this small device. If it cannot even run these basic things well, then there is not any reason to spend money on it!

Your problem is that you’re using Chrome and not Edge

I would recommend a follow-up review with other software being tested. Chrome's scrolling and lag issues are pretty well known to surface and other 2 in 1 users. But The verge is showing Lightroom CC, some games, etc. running on the GO. But as it stands, I don't feel your review is useful to me, because I don't use chrome and that is all you talk about.

Chrome has issues on my 1200 dollar Thinkpad, let alone on a device that has a passively cooled Pentium. Edge has been what I have been using on my laptop, and honestly, unless you use a lot of tool bars, it is better than Chrome.

You sounded extremely biased and sarcastic with everything you were saying right from the get go..I have used both Apple and Microsoft products and both of them are good..build quality Apple has the slightest edge over Microsoft..but some of Microsoft Surface components are better..like the keyboard on the Surface Book is better than the keyboard on the MacBook Pro's..from a productivity point Microsoft just kills Apple products..iPad/iPad Pros are just an over sized iPhone with better graphics..Apple sucked at designing the app layout on iPads too..the apps are spaced so wide apart wasting a lot of real estate on the tablet..Surface Books are leagues ahead of the MacBook Pros with their hybrid graphics implementation, detachable display..pen support etc..So the next time you start of this way..please take a hard look at yourself or find a time machine and go back 5 years..your attitude maybe a little more palatable for those times..

I had microsoft edge crash and the only way I could use it was to restart the go and it happened like 6 times, I just returned it

Answer is: Use Windows S Mode and Edge browser.

At least try with the Edge browser since it has been optimized for the device. The least you could do was to compare performance on Chrome with the Edge browser. U didn't even describe how the general performance in Windows felt like

i guess it depends on how you use it.. i have a lte version and i carry it with me everywhere i go.. it's just a portable/simple/easy-to-use tablet/laptop.
