We can’t all afford to dress in designer clothes top to toe but just because we dress on a budget doesn’t mean we have to look budget. So with a new season and a whole lot of new fashion trends to navigate I thought it might be a good opportunity to share some very simple styling tips to ensure all of your outfits look chic regardless of how much money you spent on them.

Hydrogen peroxide in the wash can go a long way toward keeping whites at their whitest. Also, I wear a lot of black, so about once per season I prepare black dye and dye all my black pieces. (NOTE: I have not had good luck dying black jeans. . . )

Agree with all your points! I might add that a high quality handbag that goes with most of your personal styles is worth its weight in gold. I have been pretty women with good outfits ruined by a cheap, tattered, or not appropriate handbag. I know most people don’t like to change bags with each outfit therefore getting a good versatile one is paramount to looking polished, together, and stylish.

I agree so much with the „it item“ - here in Germany it’s the typical beige and black striped knit sweater 😭😂 I was so excited to get mine from & other stories - it looks so well made and it feels so high quality. But now I barely wear it because EVERY girl has the same striped sweater 🥲

I have played with style and fashion ever since I was a little girl many decades ago. I have also styled celebrities in LA. So that said, I love to push the envelope and live on the edge. One more accessory or the wrong one, the wrong print on print, the wrong footwear, the wrong purse will make the whole outfit go from fabulous to trashed. What is the fun of dressing up if I played it safe all the time. I also like to wear pieces that would be hard to pull off. I embrace the challenge. All in fun and lightness!

I agree 100% about wearing the wrong bra and the same goes for your underpants. The most expensive outfit will totally look crappy if your undergarments are not right. When I was in the fashion industry that was always my piece of advice to women invest in various styles of bras and underpants so your outfit looks seamlessly smooth.

If you can’t find a bra extender at a store near you then check out a haberdashery, they tend to stock them. Or you can cut up an old bra 👍

I definitely think pairing color with black works so long as the black has a unique or quality texture (like lace or velvet) or if the color is a "pop" with a neutral or monochromatic colored outfit (like shoes or a bag). But I absolutely agree that a matte black with no texture can zap the fun out of color and absorb the outfit. Terrific note!

I had more than enough of black with colors in the 80s! I just don’t like wearing black that much anyway, I think it’s a bit of a cop out to wear black all the time. I don’t think it’s elegant or chic, as people insist, it’s just easy, because 80-90% of the clothes for sale are black. Nor do I think “it goes with everything”, it doesn’t really look good with any colors because it sucks the life from them, as well as from our complexions. I’d much rather wear white, other light neutrals and pale colors, they’re so elegant and flattering. White really does go with every color.

Go to a second hand/ goodwill in a good neighbourhood for the more expensive pieces and use the money you save for good underwear, and those pieces that for your specific size is hard to get second hand.

Great video, Leonie! I agree with all 16😊. I could never understand the purpose of dupes. What is the point? For me - I definitely overuse black with color. But when it’s just a one color sweater, say, royal blue, it’s ok to wear black slacks, right? Idea - with the holiday season approaching, maybe a video on not boring festive dressing ideas😉? Love Lily Silk, it’s where I buy most of my clothes. I just got a super-flattering navy silk LS dress, with pleats above and below the waist, it makes me look 20 lbs. thinner. I love lily silk I own at least five or six pieces. I really wanted the pajamas so I bought them in navy blue with the white piping so beautiful. I gave them to my husband and said this is my birthday present so here you go. My birthday is in December just before Christmas so he’ll give them to me then. I’d love to wear them now but I wanted to make it easy for him. Can’t wait to put them on.

I wish Lily Silk offered more elastic-waist skirts and pants, and in more colors. I just got my first custom-sized item, the khaki green cargo joggers. The biggest standard size is a 12, but I need a 14 waist and have size 10 hips, so I ordered custom, for no extra charge! They came out perfect to my measurements. Next time, though, I will add an inch to all my measurements, including length and rise, to get a more relaxed fit, the custom fit is classic, which I like for a dress, but I like baggier pants for lounging around in.
