Welcome to Holochain Ecosystem Sessions! David Atkinson chats with Laura Sansone and Evan Schwarz at NY Textile Lab, joined by Tatsuya Sato and Akira Wakabayashi from Kizuna.

New York Textile Lab is a textile design and consulting company that specializes in bioregional, regenerative textile and clothing development. They believe that the world’s textile production should grow out of abundant, regenerative systems that emerge from collective thinking, rather than centralized systems that rely on extraction, scarcity and competition.

New York Textile Lab works with regional farms to promote the growth of climate beneficial fibers used in the production of our yarns and textiles. They assist designers in the sourcing of regenerative materials and help them connect to local mills and manufacturers for their production needs. Their goal is to encourage the growth of decentralized textile supply networks.

Laura Sansone is a textile designer, activist, and consultant. She is the creator of NY Textile Lab, a design and consulting company that supports environmentally responsible textile methods, and regional systems of production. Laura is currently a Part-Time Assistant Professor of Textiles at Parsons School of Design. She has developed initiatives that bring NY designers and farmers together with the goal of creating a decentralized, regenerative textile supply network. Textile Lab’s NYS Regional Textile Initiative and Sourcebook is a collection of locally sourced and produced yarns and textiles that are intended to link apparel, product and interior designers to the regional network of farms and fiber processing mills; including spinning, weaving and knitting. In addition, she has designed woven textiles for the following companies: Maharam, New York, NY, American Silk Mills, New York, NY and Burlington House Fabrics, NY New York, NY.

Holochain delivers the promises of blockchain with a mashup of proven tech that provides self-owned data, a distributed database, and peer accountability.
Holochain is an open-source framework for creating peer-to-peer applications that are secure, reliable, and fast. Instead of depending on servers, Holochain applications connect user devices directly to each other in secure networks. This gives users the best of both worlds — the autonomy and availability of locally installed software, with the power and redundancy of cloud software. Application developers, in turn, no longer have to maintain and pay for cloud hosting.

From land to land. I like the idea and I love the story of how the NY Textile Lab came into existence.

I love videos like this. At the beginning I have nearly zero idea how this has anything to do with holochain and it slowly becomes an ingenious application. Very interesting.
