I Unleashed a Massive Colony of Weaver Ants Into My Giant Rainforest Vivarium

Weaver ants are some of the most aggressive ants I've ever worked with, but I felt our giant rainforest double vivarium was ready to host such an arboreal ant species. I was curious to see how the weaver ants would integrate into our contained ecosystem. Would they completely eat everything, attack other ant species, and lead to ecosystem collapse, or will they integrate harmoniously into the foodweb? Through this experiment, I was determined to find out, but the weaver ants had a few surprise plans. Hope you enjoy Episode 4, Season 3 of my Ecosystem Vivarium Series. Ant love forever! This video was shot in 4K Ultra HD resolution.

The snail getting there right when the ant takes it away is just too perfect 😂

I'm 49 years old. When I was a child, my friend from 2 houses away, gave me an aquarium, so we could study ants. Those were normal houseyard black ants, but fun to watch them dig tunnels and rooms for their eggs etc. (I had a cardboard covering the side of the aquarium, we removed from time to time, checking out the tunnels). We fed them sugarwater. We were thrilled when we found red ants in his backyard as well. I read tons of books about different ant species (there was no internet back then - I had to go to the library). This vivarium of yours, was my childhood dream :D Thanks for making videos about it. Appreciated.

That one weaver ant working hard while holding the larva(its tool) backwards is now my new spirit animal

We all feared Swarmageddon, but in reality they’re just trying to monopolize moss and figure out how to use the children as glue guns

AntsCanada: Here's a great starter spot for my new ant addition.

Ants: Nope, we like this spot.

I love how everything looks so big close up, then you back up and the true scale becomes known.

I can imagine being a bracer ant in the weaver colony and being all like, "Can I have a bathroom break?" "No we're not done gluing"

It's crazy to me that I've been watching so long, I've seen you move, build the ant house, build the vivarium and now have you're dream of weaver ants in it!!

Personal comment: I found this channel on last Friday night after my dog fell suddenly ill. I sat up with him for two days straight, and a good chunk of that time was spent streaming this series while hoping he would be ok and doing everything we could. We ultimately had to say goodbye on Monday, but I am very grateful to AntsCanada and this series for helping to get me through one of the worst weekends of my life.

This might get lost but is worth the try. There is one creature I'd love nothing more than to see it as part of Orchadia & Pandora and I think it would be a perfect fit. The Opiliones, harvestmen is one of the common names. There are so many different species inside this order. They are essential for population control in the soil, some species prefer to live in canopies, more adapted to it. Some fun facts are; they shine under UV light (easierto find at night in the wild), they come in many shapes and sizes, they are very curious creatures when they come out hunting (usually at night), they have this cluster behavior that it would be fun to see inside Pandora to be able to study it & I believe you have the perfect environment for them to reproduce (I was able to reproduce them in captivity).

"I'm glad everyone found their balance peacefully."

Yeah, let's revisit this statement after the Weaver Queens get moved in and start cranking out brood.

Me: "They're just like us!"

I’m glad he placed the weaver ants holding tank in Orcadia because Orcadia doesn’t get much screen time. Even after it was just built.
