Now, I'm not saying this is the best song ever written, I'm just saying nobody ever wrote one thats better.

Mr Prine. You will never be alone. That may be comfortable for you to know, or not. In any case your music has helped this man when I had serious doubts about my reason for being here in the first place. Thank You.

This song always brings tears to my eyes, has for 30 years. My parents now live 2000 miles away, in their 80's. All of the kids are still on the east coast. I wonder how my parents face each day, with all their family gone away? Everyone's lives have gone where they have gone, mom and dad were not part of those decisions. I remember thinking when my grandparents died, did my parents feel like orphans? Maybe it was better generations ago, when the family all grew up, lived, and died around each other. Planes and phones are only less divisive walls.

Never got to see John. Was introduced to his music when I went to work in the Grand Canyon in 1976. Funny how popular he is even though he was not played on the radio. One of the greatest and my favorites. He sure knew how to send messages.

I have loved John for decades. I've seen him a few times in concert. There are maybe 20 of his songs that I really love. This is one of them. It is not my favorite but it is the one that gets to me more than the others.

"We lost Davie in the Korean War,
Still don't know what for,
Don't matter anymore."
That's when I lose it. Every time.
What a beautiful song. A sad, beautiful song. Thank you, John.

Learned this song back in the 70s. Upon first hearing it, I was surprised to find myself crying. I have never forgotten it, and it changed the way I look at people forever

If I ran into John on the street sometime, I'd say "Hello In There." Love this man.

I had a friend introduce me to John Prine in 1978. Hasn't been a week go by since then that I don't think of his lyrics or listen to his music. Have been blessed to see him many times and most recently at the Warfield in San Francisco on 12-11-15. Incredible show! I consider myself lucky that his music has been such a big part of my life and the sheer joy I get when I listen.

So sad, so lovely, he's the Sephen Foster of our times, Why do so few in entertainment have Prine's grace and musical integrity. God bless him, .

Love you John! I was 9 when Sam Stone came out. Used to listen to it on my crystal radio set (one ear phone) in Ontario Canada from a country station out of Chicago Illinois. Bought all your albums, know every word. Cried when Steve Goodman died. Hello In There is timeless. As pertinent now as it ever was - and as well-done as ever! Thanks buddy! (Thanks for sharing this Paul.)

Amazing that John wrote this as a young man. What a talent!
