Xbox brought a ton of games to the Xbox Games Showcase 2023, giving us a good idea for what to expect on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass, and PC for the rest of the year and beyond. From our first proper look at Playground Games' Fable, to a release date for Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, to surprise reveals like inXile's Clockwork, there's a lot to look forward to. Read on to learn everything announced at today's Xbox showcase. Starfield runs at 30 frames per second on both Xbox Series X and S, Bethesda’s Todd Howard has confirmed.

Speaking to IGN in a new interview ahead of the Xbox and Starfield showcases, Howard said Starfield runs in 4K resolution on the Xbox Series X and 1440p on the Xbox Series S, but has locked Starfield at 30fps on console to ensure “consistency” of performance.

“I think it'll come as no surprise, given our previous games, what we go for,” Howard said. “Always these huge, open worlds, fully dynamic, hyper detail where anything can happen. And we do want to do that. It's 4K in the X. It's 1440 on the S. We do lock it at 30, because we want that fidelity, we want all that stuff. We don't want to sacrifice any of it.

“Fortunately in this one, we've got it running great. It's often running way above that. Sometimes it's 60. But on the consoles, we do lock it because we prefer the consistency, where you're not even thinking about it.

Man had a literal seizure on stream when his chat told him starfield looked good, and then didn't watch the direct all the way through. What a worm 😂

I know the frame rate isn’t everything but if there’s no 60fps option for a game in 2023 it makes you worry

Starfield (Open world with 1000 planets) runs at locked 4k 30 FPS: "Pathetic!"
FFXVI (Simple ARPG game) runs at 1440p 30FPS with framerate drops: "Pretty understandable"

Choosing 4k over 60 fps is the most Bethesda thing i saw at that show

People who are OK with 30fps have never played games at 60fps or 120fps if you did you would never would go back to 30fps

No one complained about the fps at the showcase, it wasn't until they said so that everyone magically began to realize it, the only thing you do is cry and complain about everything

You could admit though that this blew PS showcase out of the water

It's not the end of the world to me, but it definitely is unfortunate especially for a current gen console. Hope they can at least add a performance mode post launch

Guess what? Spiderman 2 is also gonna be doing 30fps on the PS5 when playing at 4k. PS5 is having

Good thing I get to play both Starfield and Spiderman 2 on my PC at 60fps plus

I think they might be banking on the fact that the masses, the mainstream public who don't adventure into these internet discussions, won't care. 30 FPS doesn't seem to be stopping Zelda.

Starfield seems to be a cpu heavy game with all the procedural generations and the scale of the world, guess that's the reason

The fact that this guys biggest takeaway is “30 FPS” clearly shows that he has absolutely no idea how Bethesda makes their games. They’ve said even before Skyrim released that they sacrifice performance for increased stability. Dreamcastguy is a walking L

If you can run something at 4k 30 fps, you can run at at 1080p 60fps

I downloaded Redfall and played it for exactly 5 seconds.

The fps put me off so much that I immediately removed it.

Think how much work goes into a game like this. And the 30 fps alone make games unplayable for me and many others.

Because we want to play. We want to be able to work in the world without worrying about our movement.

If that doesn't work, it doesn't matter how great everything looks

OK... It's not that the game runs poorly on Xbox, it's just to make the game look majestic enough so you won't cmplain about it.

Besides, they want a less buggy release than any other game they've released so far.

And one more thing, IT'S THE COMPANY'S DECISION TO RELEASE THE GAME ON XBOX AND PC, EXACTLY LIKE SONY RELEASING SPECIFIC GAMES SUCH AS GOW, TLOU, TO PLAYSTATION AS AN EXCLUSIVE RELEASE. DON'T CRY ABOUT IT BECAUSE XBOX ISN'T A MORE POPULAR CONSOLE THAN PS5! DEAL WITH IT!

If Sony would've released Starfield for PS5 exclusively, then you wouldn't cry about it, would you! And by the way, I have a PS5, and not an Xbox, because I like the exclusives better there. I have a PC though. Lucky me.

I would choose 60/120 fps over 4k any day of the week

The most powerful console can't handle 60fps with 4K, lmao

Game looks huge but pretty empty, will likely be buggy, combat looks meh and now we’re being told it’s lock to 30 fps in 2023? 🤢

30fps looks HORRIBLE on Oleds and that’s what I use. Major pass on this one for me
