Harris v. Trump: The Week Before with Tressie McMillan Cottom | What Now? with Trevor Noah Podcast

This week I call on Tressie McMillan Cottom to help us make sense of the final week before the US presidential election. Together, we unpack Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden, why certain groups are planning to vote against their own interests, and how Tucker Carlson’s web browser history may be impacting his politics. Fortunately we can all exhale next week. Or not.

Listening to this after the election, and this is the first thing I've been able to engage with that hasn't filled me with a bottomless dread. I am grateful for it.

Thoroughly enjoyed this episode! I wish the results of the election were different but you all really helped illuminate why this came to be

I'm a degreed socio-linguist who'd actually analysed political speeches with my American students during election years, and much of what you have all touched on here has reminded me of some of our discussions. I've enjoyed this podcast immensely, finding it both interesting and insightful. I've also lived several years overseas as a dual citizen, voting in both countries. And having now been looking from the outside in I believe my perspective to be a lot clearer than if I were still living within the country like a frog in a slow to boil pot. Wishing you all the best this Tuesday!

It’s sad that this podcast is only once a week. I look forward to every Thursday and listen to whatever you guys have to discuss. Your podcast needs to be at least 2x a week. It’s a great escape from the crazy of the world❤

I disagree with Trevor regarding not saying the danger we are in, because this country is in danger even if people don’t believe it. If he wins and it happens, we won’t be able to say, oh no one really explained this danger. I feel like we are becoming such over thinkers due to these podcasts and the need for content that we are talking our way out of our democracy. Normalizing dangerous behaviors and being so comfortable in the freedoms that people fought for can open the door to a dictatorship. This will not only have an impact on the U.S. but on the world.

It saddens me that we’ve come to this point where we shouldn’t take someone’s word for what it is but rather have to sit back and think "Well what I think he means is xyz."

One of the most intelligent and insightful political discussions I've heard of late - absolutely fascinating thoughts. Thank you all for gathering and sharing, with each other and we spectators.

"Conservatives historically vote for government to regulate others, not themselves." Wow--never thought of it that way.

Trevor, sounds like an episode with Lewis Hamilton is due! Love the F1 segment as a Las Vegan. 👏

I think people give 45 way too much credit. I don’t think he’s an evil genius, he’s a person who is not held accountable so he gets away with everything from people who support him. He believes what he says and doesn’t mind lying to manipulate others. He also, seems to be a narcissist which takes away any feeling of regret or accountability. 🤷🏾‍♀️

I don’t have any faith in this Supreme Court if a case should end up there.

I can relate with Trevor. I'm also from South Africa, born in 1994. We were raised to not speak publicly about our interests and likes because you will be judged or shamed especially when they're against social norms. I believe that the youtj should be speakers of the truth. Let us shame those social norms and create new ones which work for us. It's so sad and unfair that in South Africa the youth has no voice nor listened to yet we're the new generation who ought to lead one day. Policy makers are old and shallow minded individuals who don't care about anyone else but themselves. The youth needs to be heard and seen.
