This interview is so refreshing! People need to understand that this is the reality for 95% of worship leaders and churches

Hi guys. Nice tips... it’s important for you to know that the reality of the majority of churches in other countries (I’m in Portugal), is under 100 people. So these stuff is very important for us. Keep the good work

Since even a used Macbook can be expensive if you have a very small (if any) budget, I like the idea of using an old phone to run a keyboard app. If you need something more than what is in Garageband iOS, there are a plethora of apps (some nice ones by Korg) that could also work to get you piano or synth sounds when connected to a cheap MIDI keyboard.

Hey Jake, I notice you mention alternatives to Adobe Creative Suite. If you haven't already, you should check out Affinity line of softwares by Serif. This includes Affinity Designer, Photo and Publisher as alternatives to Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign. Then there's DaVinci Resolve 15 which has features baked in to rival Premiere + After Effects. All these are available for one time purchase. No subscriptions.

We use Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo which are only $49 each and no monthly charge.

Good day - there is even Affinity Designer or Photo as an alternative - no pricing plan and looks super modern.

Yeah, I am one of the broke @$$ leaders but in the sound booth end. If I want it, I gotta buy it out of my own pocket 90% of the time. Amazes me how much congregations complain about worship but won't give a dime toward improving it. I kind of wish there was a worship craigslist where larger churches could sell their old stuff to smaller churches and they in turn could unload there stuff on us.

Apple's programs are cheap because they charge a premium for the hardware. When you're paying the amount of money for a Mac that you do, you're basically paying the profit for Logic, etc. or at least the profit for it.

Look into Affinity Photo and Affinity Design both are by Serif and together cost $100 for life.

Was about to share it with around 90 pastors until you had to bring in the cuss word at the end. Very disappointing.

Great interview.  Looking for suggestions - we have 2 large screen TV in the lobby, but we currently use a thumb drive for the announcements. So every time I need to make changes, I need to pull the thumb drive, make the changes then plug the thumb drive back in. Is there any way I can make changes remotely from home or somewhere else in the church?

Apple isn't making money on iPhones anymore. An iPhone cost apple about $700 or $800 bucks and they're sold for a 200-dollar profit. They're moving to streaming services as the big money maker. In other words, hardware is getting expensive and software is less expressive. Yeah, you still need to pay people to create the software but you don't have to pay them as much for minor updates.

The question you don't address is should a small church really try to emulate a mega church? Much of what you address is the idea that instead of working within what is available in human resources. Maybe it should be title how to try to be like the mega church on the cheap.
