"Miles Away" is a power ballad by American rock band Winger, from their album In the Heart of the Young.

Released in late 1990 to pop radio after already reaching #1 in most AOR markets, the song peaked at #12 on the Hot 100. It is also significant for being Winger's only ever hit single in the United Kingdom, reaching #56 on January 24, 1991.

The song references "Just When I Needed You Most" by Randy Vanwarmer, another Colorado artist.

Released shortly after the start of the Gulf War in the Persian Gulf and receiving substantial radio play, the "Miles Away" music video featured clips of American fighter jets such as the F-15E Strike Eagle, and became the unofficial anthem for the war.

I close my eyes and think back to this time and listening to these bands. Feels like a magical time, in retrospect. Perhaps it is just nostalgia for my youth, but whatever, it was a much better time in which to live.

My parents pretty much just started seeing each other and then my mom moved to a different state for college and by the time that happened my dad thought they broke up and this song was popular at the time so it reminded him of their relationship. She came back after a month and realized she loved him more than she initially thought. And 30+ years later they had two kids and living their best lives in retirement🥰💕
