I was a good bowler in the 1970’s during high school and coninued until 1997. I’m 67 now, retired and my wife and I have dusted off the bags and started bowling for fun. I feel like I have to re-learn the game in some ways. I can’t get down as low at the point of release and my 16 pound, finger tip balls feel too heavy for me now. I’m still in pretty good physical shape, walk a couple of miles a day, but it’s not the same on the lanes and I feel I have to reduce my physical stress in order to continue.. I was thinking about going to a 14 pound ball and perhaps a conventional grip? Do you think that’s a good place to start? My fingers and forearms are not what they once were.

Love to hear your insights, too bad I’m not closer to the east coast .

Are there any good tips out there for very old bowlers? I bowl with my great uncle every week, who is 92 years old, and I want to be able to guide him a little. The problem is, his limitations force him into a very slow approach and a release that can sometimes be unpredictable, depending on hip pain. Is there any way to help him work on a release that you could almost throw from a stationary stance? When he approaches it seems as though all his energy goes into swinging his body and it causes a lot of cross body tosses. I'm hoping there's something we could focus on when he's just standing at the line that could help get him into a more consistent motion for release.
