I coulda sworn a standard scale sounded "brighter" than a short scale. Guess I better swear off swearin'. Thanks Mike. Nice playing.

I love how woody the short-scale sounds. You might get a little more projection, and a bit of nasal, with the longer scale, but man, that woody tone on the short. If I were to get a Martin dread, it would be short-scale.

I really miss Tony. Great guy, exceptional and even handed in reviewing guitars. Great player, but always played the same tunes when reviewing guitars. That's professionalism with little ego.
Reminds me of a younger, thinner Steve Earle, one of my favorite performers.

the short scale is richer, but muddier, really nice and the long scale has a better attack and more useful for processing

Why hasn't someone in the guitar industry come up with a standard of
performance-measurement? What I am thinking is a formula based on
thumb, index finger lengths and ring size of ring finger to determine
best nut width and scale length? Having a data base with that data and
opinions by guitarists would be great!

Seem like the standard scale had a higher sound. it was Lauder then the short scale. But neither one was very loud. Maybe it was the mic.

Can't choose which I like best haha...the short scale seems a bit less mid-heavy with slightly higher overtones, but that's all I can hear lol. I'd be happy with either.

Mike seems to enjoy the short scale to play because of the slightly decreased string tension.

Is Mike a local legend for guitar playing or Police officer?

His jaw moved faster with the short scale but the metronome slowed down about 10 bpm, I figured it would speed up on both. You never know hich is best until your playing with the band. It dont matter if it a 400 watt rackmount setup or an acoustic they all have their advantages per application. That being said I'd buy a gibson scale d18 or 28 before I bought a j45.

Standard scale = more suited for strumming. Short scale = more suited for flat-picking.
