I’ve been searching YouTube for tips on how to teach my dogs recall and this is by far the best. Thanks

i used this method for my 3 month old lab and golden mix and he picked up on it perfectly within the first 2 days of the whistle training ! i highly recommend this !!!! he will already come to me even when he’s playing with the other dogs outside ! thank you for this !!! this is a life saver !!! i also just wanted to add that i didn’t even need to do the long lead phase (i do have one) he just immediately got it after 2 days of the first phase.

I used a silent whistle and my dog looked around with great interest like ‘What do you want from me’. He’s not food motivated. I want to train my dog how to stop barking at people who come close into his orb. Like your video a lot . Thanks

I'm very pleased about how you did this. You took it from my conceiving in my head to actually showing the Pavlovian process. Thank you for sharing this gem. Subscribed for sure

Thank you very articulate explanation of all phases. Yet, when environment surpasses the R+ consequence it's hard to get the dog back. pls elaborate

I loved this! I have 2 Samoyeds, one is too old to run off and not come back, whereas the other one, at just turned 5 is a different story altogether. She was also adopted by me less than a year ago, so her previous training is patchy. I'm tired of yelling in the woods for her to come back. It defeats the whole idea of being out in the peace and quiet!! I decided that getting a whistle was a better idea. This video is so clear, and structured, I wish all training videos were this good! Just waiting for said whistle to arrive and we're a go!

we will do phase three never out of a fenced area cause when a greyhound runs of the chances to get the dog back are too small that i would trust it. but this video helped me train my grey to come back to me in the dog parc to leash her- beforehand i had to chase her when i wanted to leave. thank u very much for this great video <3

I have watched many vids. This resonated with me. Simple guidance, I have high hopes for my two year old cocker who I need to level up in return training. Many thanks!

I think Im mmost impressed by how easily you got them into play mode.. lol
Graet vid tho. Ive always wanted to whistle train my dogs. Since my old one passed, we are looking for a new family member, and Im confident I can do this.. Its same as how I train my old Otto, just using a whistle vs vocal commands. It all makes so much sense!
Thank you!

Great video. Question, how many treats per session for phase 1 are we giving for each piece (Beginning, sitting on the couch, ETC, out on the street, ETC)

Thank you, this was so good to watch from stage one, since I haven’t used a whistle before. Now I feel more confident. But I do have a question. Do you use the same blowing pattern for each dog? I have 5 dogs.... So if the pattern is for instance 2 short toots, that means that all the dogs would come (if they understand what they are supposed to do) and then I need to reward all of them at once, correct? I realize that training is going to be easiest if the working dog is separated from the rest. But what would you do?

I have 3 dogs and have Garmin Alpha 100 GPS colors on all of them when I go out in the woods, so I can see where they are.
Today I almost had my world end. It started raining so hard so I called the dogs, 2 came as they could hear me and the female that did not cone is so smart that I was not worried even when she did not come, so I put my truck in 4x4 to get turned around as it became so muddy, and then I got stuck.
By the time I started driving my girl Coffee had run over a mile towards the main road as it was raining, she lost her direction and went the opposite way of where I parked.
I was now driving and swirving in the mud at full speed looking at the gps as I could see where she was running at as I was in desperation to get to her before she got hit by a car.
By the time I made it to the main road where she was cars were zipping by her by only feet as she was walking on the side of the road. She is all black and the sun is now set and raining. I pulled over almost causing an accident and ran out and lifted her in my arms. I have been in shock for the past 3 hours. If I had lost her my world would have ended.

Lessons learned:
1) If I had not had the Garmin gps collar on her, I would have never known nor believed that she would have gone in the wrong direction and traveledthat far. So, without the gps collar she would have likely been killed right now.

2) I could not communicate with her to let her know where I was as I walked to the truckdown the back roads trail. So, I went and bought whistles. I can not reccomend this video and others like it enough. I have been doing this training for 10 minutes and they are already understanding to come to me.
Then I was in the other room listening to it and when the man blew his whistle they came running.

A GPS collar is great as you get to know where your dog is. But it does not allow you to get a high pitch tone out to communicate with your dog.

Please learn from my horrible experience today with Coffee, so you are never in the same situation and not able to communicate with your dog, to let her know where you are.

Very respectfully,
Erik Petroni
