When Christ returns, He does not touch the ground, rather He meets the saints, those who lived through the time of trouble and those freshly resurrected with new bodies to meet Him immediately the air...not on Earth.

See 1st Thessalonians 4:15-18, Matthew 25:21, 1st Corinthians 15:51-55 & Revelation 19:16-21.

The wicked alive at His return are destroyed, and Satan & his fallen agel demons are left on a desolate earth, a botttomless pit - translated from the Greek word άβυσσος (abyss). They are there for 1000 years while Christ reigns in heaven with His saved for the same time. During that time, they confirm the judgment which will be executed when the New Jerusalem descends from heaven & the wicked are raised & meet their final end, along with the prince of darkness himself. Then, Jesus makes a new heavens and a new earth.
See Revelation 20:1-2, 3-4, John 5:38-39, Revelation 21:1-11.

.....and about "hell" - Psalm 37:10, "For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be." But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the Lord shall be consumed; into smoke, they will consume away.” Again, Isaiah 47:14, "Behold, the day shall be as stubble, the fire shall burn them, they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame...There will not be a coal to warm at nor a fire to sit before." No coal, no fire, they're going out! Itll burn up! The Lake of fire is called such because every wicked person and demon will be alive at the same time and as they are consumed the earth will appear as one vast lake of fire. There is no life in there or coming back from it.

Jude tells us, "Even as Sodom and Gomorrah are set forth as an example suffering the vengeance,” of what kind of fire? “The eternal fire.” Are Sodom and Gomorrah still burning today? They were burnt with eternal fire, but they were burnt up. Was Sodom and Gomorrah ever rebuilt? Nope! And it hasn't been burning 4000 years longer than a 20th century ax murderer.

Dead are dead - see Ecclesiasties 9:5-10, Psalm 6:7 & many more but chief of them is John 3:16! What happens to those who don't believe in Jesus? They Perish! Hardly could that mean burn forever.
