Does this mean you’re gonna do a spice tolerance series? I’m all in!

“Growing chilies is hard.”
Meanwhile, living in Arizona. I just put some seeds in dirt with an irrigation timer, then forget about them for 4 months and I have hundreds of chili peppers.

You can see he was moved by his tiny plants with those tears. Those are tears of pure joy, and pride.

Are we going to see an at-home whisky distillation series soon?

I once grew some Trinidad scorpion peppers, put it in a greenhouse and took care of it, and finally I had quite a few peppers! Then I discovered how hot they were. Then I had plenty of peppers with no one who wanted to eat them.

My recommendation if you find the same? Make chili sauces and jams! I made a delicious blueberry pepper sauce.

I love how this dude has accomplished hundreds of highly difficult skills and yet the pinaccle of his hard work is growing fruit in Scotland

Oh my goodness, we grow a lot of our own stuff because we live in an environment where we can do so outdoors! Our usual line up is chili peppers, eggplants, tomatoes (which will take over your garden if you don't separate them really well), parsley (which, honestly, is grown as food for the rabbits that have been nesting in our backyard for 16 years), and basil (also often eaten by the rabbits). We also have cherry trees that fruit really well now, and mint that invaded an entire planting bed. It's wonderful being able to grow your own food, and I encourage people to try it if they can!

Yup. Love growing peppers in the one perfect sunny part of the yard. Southern side of the house, white siding. The peppers get sun all day and the reflection off the siding. They just thrive. Especially powerful plants when you trim them to make them bushy.

Chile peppers typically like a warmer climate, and actually do pretty well if you only water them when the start to wilt a bit. The stress of not getting water constantly can cause the peppers to be spicier. Where I live, you have to water them every day, because they'll start to wilt in the afternoon nearly every day. If you keep the plants indoors and top them every now and then, they'll last for several years.
Fresno peppers tend to be 2, 500-10, 000 scovile heat units, and the hottest pepper from the UK is the Dorset Naga at 1.5 million scovile heat units. The spiciest pepper is the Carolina Reaper at 2.2 million.

I was in that phase as well. I think we had like 7 different chilies in our small apartment. From our experience habanero has a really great taste if you make chili-pesto.
Recipe: Chilies, tomato concentrate (we use X amount to adjust the spiciness to our liking), a lot of neutral oil (we use rapeseed), a lot of salt and the 2 secret ingredients - juice from a lemon and parsley. Mix it all in a blender and enjoy!

You don’t need to use a painting brush for pollination. You shake the plant or give the Flowers a wiggle because they are self pollinators, in Natur or outside the wind does it ;)

I started growing my own last year. Lots of varieties. My favourite was the Carolina reaper jam. Fell in love with it

you do not have to pollinate the flowers manually... they pollinate themselves well enough, if you want to help the pollination along a bit, a small desk fan and/or grabbing the plant and gently shaking it. this is usually enough to pollinating most of the flowers instead of just some of them.

The advice you gave on watering is some of the most helpful gardening advice there is.
