Absoloutely brilliant way to teach!..amusing..but positive results!..my youngest Son learn't to play the drums aged 9years old by himself...rock n roll beats...but to learn orchestral, and jazz, etc, he had to have a professional teacher, who had a way of teaching like this guy....every drum and cymbal on the kit had a different "Name"...like...the snare drum was "Ticka"..and the ride cymbal was "Tacka", etc..So a beat might be .."Ticka ticka " ..."Tacka Tacka" .."Ticka Ticka "..and so on with silly-sounding terms for each part of the kit. These were associated with the musical dots on the manuscript...within a few months, my Son was playing to live audiences in the local Community Youth Orchestra, as well as his School Orchestra...still only ten years old!
Hal has a unique way of teaching with his hand movements associated with the two choices...Blow...or Draw....and it works!!
Great stuff Hal!
40 years later, and my Son is now a well-known Record Engineer/Producer in London...and has played on many Chart hit records as a session percussionist....thanks to his old Teacher!

I play harmonica and I love it but I could not stand the bad sound recording quality of this video. I could not watch the whole video as it just grated on my nerves. What happened to a sound check.
