All the things I HATE about Icon of the Seas

Icon of the Seas is the biggest cruise ship in the world and while it's my favorite ship, there are a few things I really don't love about it. It's time for some tough love!

On Icon too:

1. The TVs are fixed to the wall. It’s impossible to connect any devices, like a game console which are life savers to entertain little kids in the room when you don’t want to go out.

2. The Green Dry Slide, it has a very short landing, kids and adults go out expelled landing on the hard floor with their tailbone. Saw that happening twice.

3. Pier7. That’s just a very weird Restaurant with a very strange menu selection to be in a kids area. Bring Johnny Rockets back. Burgers and milkshakes speak more to the kids than a “California Taco” or whatever item they serve there.

3. Charging for food at Basecamp. That’s is the most absurd of them all.

4. The capacity of AO for kids 3-5. The largest young families oriented ship with the shortest capacity. The lines to drop the kid off at AO were too long and just with hopes that a kid would get picked up so your kid could get in.

5. The Aquadome Bleachers. Watching a fantastic show while uncomfortable takes part of the good experience away.

6. A Black rail blocking the view at the Royal Theater Upper Level.

7. Not having the Spa and the Gym together was inconvenient.

8. The access to Absolute Zero. Very strange.

How can the Schooner close at 10PM?! That when all the dedicated drunks go to sing along with the piano player.

I appreciate that it was just the “hate” and not love and hate. Most of the time, when someone does both, the “ loves” are in detail and the “hates” are just dishonorable mentions at the end. But by only focusing on the one, you stated in detail what and why you hated/disliked those things. Great job!

Swim and Tonic needs to be an adult only venue and the Hideaway pools need to be larger. Also there needs to be more shade.

Totally agree with everything you "hated" on Icon. We also miss the quiet solarium area. There was no place to hide from the kids except the spa! Thanks for sharing some of the imperfections of your favorite ship.

I agree about the layout of the pub, Schooner, Boleros, and dueling pianos. The staggered showtimes mess with the natural momentum the entertainers create throughout the cruise.

I’ve never been on Icon, but the lack of a Solarium among a few other things like initial pricing has me saying no thanks. Hideaway seems cool, but definitely not the 18+ vibe I’m looking for, I’ll stick to the others.

Royal Caribbean should create a ship for just adults 21 and older. People are tired of cruising with children.

That is myself and my wife’s biggest issue with Icon. We loved the shipped, so did our kids, but the Oasis class ships have far better suite selections than Icon especially for a family of 5. Which is why we still prefer the Oasis class ships.

I completely agree that they need to bring back 150 Central Park restaurant! The Empire supper club is too expensive and exclusive to be considered a specialty restaurant. At $200 a ticket, that's going to exclude many families from considering going there for dinner.

I've never been on a RC ship but when I talk with people on Carnival who have been on RC, the 10 'o clock cut off is one of the main reasons why they consider this line for "old people". I would at least want the clubs to stay open until a little past midnight.

Totally agree with the disappointing Suite offerings. We had a huge Sunset Corner Suite, but so little storage that we had to keep some of our clothes in the bathroom.

Su funny you commented about the baskets in the cabins. Did not like them so put them under the bed and slid my packed cubes in them. Worked so much better and offered more storage than a basket you had to slide out.

Docked next to it when we were on Adventure of The Seas in late May. People were complaining it was too crowded and cabins were lacking storage

Also Matt the icon doesn’t have any ocean views in the main dining room. We had a window but people were walking the track and looking in while we ate.
