The thought of those animatronics just sitting there, motionless, in the darkness, all that time, is honestly eerie.

The story to this attraction comes full circle in the weirdest way...
The ride started out as a 20, 000 Leagues Under the Sea themed ride. One of the main characters of the book/movie is named Captain Nemo. The ride turns into a Finding Nemo ride.
FULL CIRCLE.

Baxter continuously pitching steampunk until he was finally allowed to do it is honestly iconic

No way, Atlantis was considered?! That movie would have been amazing to have a ride!!

There's always something eerie about hearing on this channel about dismantled rides and what becomes of the parts. Something that brought so much joy to people being scrapped so easily is almost dream shattering.

I have an idea: you know how Disneyland has the statue of Walt and Mickey? Well Defunctland can have one of Michael Eisner.

I was actually at Disney Sea when the 2011 earthquake hit Japan. Overall 10/10 would recomend; the food was expensive but the infrastructure was sturdy enough to not collapse on us as we cowered in fear at a 7.7 magnitude earthquake.

8:38 funny thing is, if they made an Atlantis or Treasure Planet themed ride nowadays itd probably do great financially due to the nostalgia surrounding the films now

"I'm sorry Tony, we just don't think that people would be interested in a park based of Jules Verne's work. Now a park based off a movie by James Cameron that was forgotten a few months after it was released, THAT is what the people want!"

"The Jules Verne fantasy novels wouldn't be interesting enough."
Yeah, that's why everyone still knows and recognizes these stories two and a half centuries later...

Thinking about the 20000 Leagues Under The Sea ride always gives me an un easy feeling. Like how could they just demolish somethings so amazing. Ever since I was a kid I've been obsessed with the history of that ride

This makes me want to see a Bioshock ride.

They were considering a Treasure Planet ride? That's incredible!

I wish they had gotten the go-ahead for it; it's a brilliant film :)

I've always been a big Jules Verne fan, and my dad took me to see a re-release of 20, 000 Leagues when I was a kid. Then we went to Disneyworld and I fell in love with the ride. I also went on the California version a few years later. Luckily, I returned to Disneyworld in 1994, so I got one last go on the 20K ride right before it was shut down in 94. I was at Disneyworld last year and was disappointed at how so many classic rides were gone, replaced by the flavor-of-the-moment. It's rather sad.

I live in Japan and have rode this attraction many times. I actually quite like this ride but it's not very popular here and it's always almost like a joke where this attraction has more than 30min wait time, it's a busy day haha. Because of its popularity, we often get to ride the attraction by ourselves which is pretty cool!

The 20, 000 Leagues ride will always be a an amazing memory for those of us as kids. Even if it was really just a boat when your a kid you were totally convinced you where going under water!

As the son of Disney's ex head electrician (1982-1996) and life long Disneyland die-hard, your videos give me so much nostalgia its painful. Keep doing what you are doing my friend!

20K @ MK Orlando was my favorite ride growing up. I was 14yrs old when it closed. Growing up my Dad would take me to Disney 2x a year he was as excited as I was to go. I lost my dad to stage 4 Lung Cancer a couple years ago and going through his things I found a ton of 8mm film reels he shot at Magic Kingdom. I been converting them one at a time to digital. Once I discovered DEFUNCTLAND I been binge watching all your videos. Man thanks for bringing back so many good memories I appreciate you!

To see all those remarkable subs scrapped was a disgrace to those who built them and to those who still remembers what an incredible ride that was.
