As an Aberdeen fan, I’m absolutely delighted he’s gone, but as a Scottish football fan, I’m sad to see him leave our league. I felt the same when Tom Rogic left too. Both players tore the league and my club apart on numerous occasions and quite often left you in awe of their technical superiority.

O’Riley was a terrific pick-up by the scouting team at Celtic and is a testament on how to do great transactional business by a club. Buy players with huge upside for very little and sell them on for millions. The transfer model at Celtic has been this way for years, and in recent years, Aberdeen’s has been similar too.

O’Riley isn’t irreplaceable, but it will be incredibly difficult to find someone who’s built from the same mould. Your midfield is still very strong with Bernardo coming into it and when you secure the deal for Engels, that’ll add more strength and depth to your squad.
