What was the reason for going with a traditional 4WD system for the hybrid, instead of just putting an electric motor on the rear axle?

Totally loved my lariat Maverick all-wheel-drive, this one seems really cool except it needs the 2.3 L eco-boost. I won’t be buying another Maverick until they increase the horsepower.👍🏽
