Swapnil Kusale clinched India’s third medal in Chateauroux at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Thursday. A railway ticket collector, Kusale clinched bronze in Men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions event with a score of 451.4.

Kusale shot an aggregate of 451.4 in the eight-shooter final to finish third after being placed sixth at one stage.

After the end of the kneeling and prone rounds, Kusale was ranked fifth with a score of 310.1. In the standing position, an elimination round, the Indian was consistently placed in the top four and eventually sealed a bronze medal finish.

All three medals so far for India have come in shooting events – which is the best performace for the sport in Olympics for India.

The last time a 50m rifle shooter made it to the Olympic finals was in 2012 London when Joydeep Karmakar finished fourth in 50m rifle prone event, a discipline which has been discontinued at the Olympics.
