Studio 54: The Club That Was So Wild, They Had To Shut It Down

In the long line of historical decadence and self-indulgence, after Rome’s downfall and The Great Gatsby’s green light, there existed a place called Studio 54. For 33 incandescent months, this New York City nightclub became a glittering vortex of excess, hedonism, and people who didn’t need to be told twice about the merits of a good party. If Studio 54 was a church, then its founders, Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager, were its high priests, officiating a nightly mass of disco, decadence, and dubious decision-making.

The lack of real images of the club is a let down.

Wow this has to be the worst generic footage I’ve ever seen. There’s loads of Studio 54 images and videos out there, you guys couldn’t find any of it? 🤦🏻

I'm too young to have partied there, but not too young to have owned that Mike Myers movie on VHS tape 😂

The visuals are horrendous for a video on 54 history. There are hundreds of stills and clips from the lines outside to the party inside. Hardly any used in this video….disappointing

I would love to see a mini-series on Studio 54, if those walls could talk jeeze. Netflix...Max...somebody do something!

If you were a celebrity it was easy to get in, if you was an average person it took luck to get in.

The Studio 54 movie was almost a glimpse into this world, but the studio made them change the plot into a straight love story. However there is a restored Director Cut that brings back the bi hustler Ryan Phillipe storyline and the characters that were based on real people.

The closest I ever got to Studio 54 was buying the album featuring songs that were played there. The name of the album was A Night At Studio 54. 🕺🏾💃🏾

Another fact that could have been added in the video in regards to Chic famous song Le Freak
The origin of it was when the bassist and guitarist of the band had been invited to Studio 54 by Grace Jones
However the latter failed to notify the staff about the guests
So when the musicians arrived
They were told to leave
So they came with the word Freak Out as a way of saying “fu** off” to the infamous nightclub

I was 12 years old and living in Colorado Springs when the disco era hit. The 70's were some of the happiest years of my life !!🤗 I knew of Studio 54 and I clicked on this video, because I wanted to see images of what it really looked like---Imagine my disappointment when there weren't any. Take this video down and re-do it. Show pictures of the actual club and perhaps interview people who were fortunate enough to get in and maybe interview some of the people who performed there, like Cher. A lot of disco icons have passed away but why not interview the ones who are still around, like Barry Gibb from the Bee Gees. People like me were too young to experience this dynamic club---how about giving us a PROPER and in -depth documentary ? Question, was the movie "Thank God it's Friday" loosely based on Studio 54? I know Donna Summer's 'Last Dance' was made popular by the soundtrack to the movie.

For me half the fun would have been standing back and watching who was trying to get in.

The stock photos are so overused. Filler is one thing but my god this is overkill

My friends and I had gone there a few times after its heyday. We always had a great time but wished we could've gone there at it's height just once.
